Currently working as a Supervisor with 8+ years of experience including audit, GL accounting and financial reporting and plan on going for a finance/accounting manager role during Q4. I am currently at 86k+bonus and was offered $110k+30k bonus for a manager role outside of Comcast. My questions are:
(1) Is $110k for a Manager position a low number for the area (Philadelphia)?
(2) What’s a good area to pivot with my broad range of experiences? I’d like a consulting/accounting type of role.

I am in Philadelphia as well, and that is low. from my early conversations with recruiters, they are talking about $100,000 (up to 110k) for a senior role and I have only 2.5 years of experience.

EY FAAS Philly is hiring and given my current comp. I expect manager should be around $135K - $155K. This is low compared to other practices in the area (I have friends in CMAAS making that as S2 in Philly) but they work almost twice as much as I do.

like

@D2 I’m used to hearing one year is equivalent to two not 4x so I’m in agreement

$110 is on the low end - I’d aim to be in the $120-130 range. Bonus looks high - is that a signing bonus or an annual? If annual, total comp looks about right for a manager.

Managers with a specialization earn more (technical accounting, external reporting, etc), but it sounds like you are more of an operational accountant. I’d recommend diversifying your accounting experience - you could do well in technical accounting if you have the desire. It would make you well rounded.

like

Thanks! The $30k bonus was first year which had some guaranteed elements; their pay structure was a little different.

Good to know on the specialization; I’ve spent my last few years in reporting and was thinking of looking for something in technical or SEC reporting.

8 years of experience and you're only making 85k??? Bro I'm not even a senior and I'm making 80k...hope you find something around 180-200k honestly

@PWC then that's depressing, discouraging and discussing for anyone that studied accounting and worked their asses off for 10 years.

Happy to help refer to manager roles at Deloitte!

This may be an unpopular opinion.

But I think it's kinda shitty that when FAANG people get laid off, everyone feels bad for them and they get so many resources to get rehired, but the same is not true for people that get laid off at smaller lesser known organizations.

Like those FAANG people will be fine, they got generous severance packages. The people who actually need help often get overlooked or are forgotten.

How important is it to nab referrals to jobs that you are applying to? I know some people in tech that say it’s really important to land the first round, but is it the same in business? Also re: recruiter DMs/emails, do you have an advantage in the interview process if you are reached out to, or is it just something they do on a mass scale during hiring frenzies?

I started my first job with a very very low salary last September because I really liked the agency.
But I have an MA in Advertising and I feel that I have sold myself for too little now. Plus they won't be giving me a raise when I finish the year due to cost-cutting.

For my next job, how do I make sure I get what I deserve? And how much of a hike can I ask for without sounding arrogant/conceited?

A % that I can ask more of would be v v helpful. Thanks!

I’ve been offered a position that I’m really excited about. Their initial offer was 10K more than the top of the salary range they gave me for the position when I asked during the interview process and at the top end of the salary requirements I set for myself. My partner thinks I should still negotiate for more even though I’m happy with the offer. Am I an idiot if I don’t negotiate in this case? Realistically, I don’t think I’d get much more than that, but should I negotiate out of principle?

Ladies in their 30s (or anyone) help me out. When on a great first date with a guy in his late 30s, we totally clicked. When he dropped me off, he asked to come inside and I politely said no, since I don't invite anyone inside after the first time we've met date or not. Everything seemed fine but this morning he texts me "I'm sorry it just seems like we aren't looking for the same things." What did I do wrong here? Should I have let him come inside?
