Currently working tax at a Midsized firm, the largest in my city, and we have reached a tipping point where every additional resignation means more work for those left. The firm has only doubled down on old rhetoric demanding people back in office and 55 hrs min a week to get the work done.

This is my first white collar job, and I'm wondering if every firm is like this, if I should jump ship too, or if I'm being a stupid millennial.

Any guidance would be great.
Thanks!

Demanding you back in office now? The pandemic isn’t over yet notwithstanding the vaccine.

Unless they’re looking for people with fully purpose, I’d start looking elsewhere.

My very first job was at a mid size place and during busy season we would get emails with expectations of billing 50, 55, 60 hours for a given span of weeks

Start interviewing at B4, mid tier, and anywhere else you can. 55 in off season after long hours especially in tax isn’t normal. Although, yes for a few weeks Q3 could be rough.

In TC calculations, would you count 100K stocks or only 25 that vest in y1?

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

Celsius vs BlockFi now that BlockFi has all the cease and desist orders? Seems like celsius pays better AND now may be a safer bet? I like that BlockFi allows interest flex so i could get everything in eth or something and i have their CC, but otherwise they kinda suck. Bad rates and limited / expensive withdrawals.

I’m also concerned about more states piling onto BlockFi and turning them into a bitconnect or cred or something. Unlikely i know but curious about folks thoughts.

Hi Everyone,
I hope life is treating you well.
I recently moved to Ottawa from Louisville, Kentucky, and I am looking for an accounting job in Ontario or Quebec. I have work experience in Tax& Finance and an MBA in Accounting. I was wondering if any of you could refer me for an open position in your company ( after we’ve had a chance to talk, of course) or put me in contact with a member of your hiring team.
Please let me know if any of you would be comfortable doing so.

Thanks,
Sarah

I am a Manager at a big 4 international tax considering switch to M&A Tax in another big 4 or a prestigious firm International Tax group but with more structure work. Which one is better for a long-term plan (~2 years) of going to private with a mid/upper management position that is not compliance oriented? As for me, I was heavy on compliance until recent and wanted to focus on getting planning experience and management skills forward. I am a CPA and an attorney, but not a JD.

Any advice on joining M&A tax groups? Current experience is (mainly Fed) compliance related. Do big 4 take outside hires or should I get my foot in the door first and transfer depts?

Just did my first research to form my own opinion / interpretation and sent to the Partner for consideration and review. I hope I didn’t miss the mark lol
