However, the team’s culture is quite toxic and I’m applying out (partners openly cracking jokes about low bonus during salary review was last straw for me). One of the feedback I’ve received from recruiters is that I may be too junior at first instance (in terms of no. of years called to the bar) for the top firms but they still think I have a shot because of my deal experience. Does anyone have any tips on how to make my deal experience come across more effectively in my CV? For eg, as a starting point, should I be putting “lead assoc” in my deal descriptions?
Yes, put lead associate. Describe what you did, drafted, communication you managed (if so), etc
I had a very similar kick-off to my career (m&a and equity deals) and am now 3 years down the road with a fun job. Happy to discuss one on one if you wish, just shoot me a pm.
Also, in any event if it’s toxic, get out!
