Cyber M&A Advisory sounds fancy but is it really an interesting field to be in?

I made a career out of this. I'm a former pen tester, cloud security architect, and vCISO. M&A can get somewhat repetitive if you get shoed into just due diligence. I'm now leading a team that does the full lifecycle of M&A, including IT/cyber advisory while a company is in a PE's portfolio. That last component gives you access to PEs and small to mind sized companies that don't have the sophistication of an org with a CISO FTE, which means you're the acting CISO bringing together security practices with business growth strategies. Very exciting IMHO.

Houlihan Lokey is hiring in the technology and cyber space.

1. It pays very well
2. You have are building a case to get into PE —more $$$
3. It’s repetitive unless you’re working the whole lifecycle then you learn the business.

Someone keep me honest here, but I believe you’d really only play a part in the Due Diligence aspect. I think the process would be very repetitive, but the findings / results would be interesting on a case by case basis

I have participated in the strategy portion. It all comes down to their trust in you. Also, a lot of post deal 100 day strategy and carve out work. DD about 60%

K1- does kpmg have a M&A cyber group outside advisory?

like

Kpmg cyber m&a is just a basic outside-in cyber scan tool (using bitsight, etc) with a kpmg wrapper. They don’t have deep cyber skills. Just life long consultants who learnt a bit of cyber.

There are a lot of phases in the lifecycle, you can start with due diligence where you get to see a lot of companies over a short time, but as other have mentioned it can be repetitive.

There is also a strategy/long term component where you are merging two cyber orgs or helping stand up a new cyber org that has recently been spun off. Feel free to DM me for more info.

Just started a new project with a bank client. Got my client laptop. Opened the web tool they use to change your password across all systems. The https site, wait for it, did not have a SSL cert installed. I get that it's an internal site that requires VPN connectivity, but no cert? Not even a self-signed cert? Really?
