MBA is like an equalizer. You get a bit of a reset and have the opportunity to go into a different sector. Deep breath now, long post ahead. Your chances improve if: 1. You attend a top MBA program (HSW ideally, or M7) 2. You have directly relevant prior experience 3. The other parts of your profile are strong (e.g. top undergrad program with a very competitive major) Your chances of getting into finance? Well finance is a very broad field. For some common options: 1. PE: very difficult for MF, possible but still difficult for MM funds, even with a top MBA. 2. HF: by and large as for PE. Some funds will be impossible due to the incompatibility of strats they are pursuing with your profile. 3. Other asset managers (e.g. SWFs, mutual funds, pension funds): quite a bit of variance in difficulty here, you need to do more research yourself. 4. IB: competitive but possible. Difficulty of entry can depend on the role and exact desk you're looking to join as much as the brand. 5. VC: competitive but possible, though the biggest brands will be extremely difficult to get into, more so than IB since they are much smaller. 6. Corporate finance/ FP&A: Possible 7. Commercial and retail banking: Possible 8. Corporate VC/ M&A/ investment divisions: Possible but huge variance in difficulty. The top brands will be difficult to get into. 9. Financial/ investment advisory: Huge variance in difficulty. You are at the right place at FB to ask more questions about which bits you might find interesting. 10. Accounting/ general finance/ treasury: possible though may not be a popular option. There's also another level of detail needed here about the roles you want to break into, but you probably need to do the research for that yourself. I've not put some other options here, e.g. insurance since that's another massive industry in and of itself, but they are certainly part of the financial system. Other options such as credit scoring/ consumer finance/ lending, public sector etc. I've also not included because they are typically not popular options.

my issue with cybersecurity is that "industry" is extremely small, and exit opps means its more likely i go to a company where security is a cost. Sure there's places like raytheon, or MSFT security tech, but what's the end goal? Not much really, become ciso for a company or prod manager @ a sec company, work up possibly become something more, or i stay in security consulting. But I can see where this train is going, work wise, and I don't think I want to be around when I'd have to be making sales targets as a SM.

Transition shouldn't be difficult for you. You may end up being a high achiever, when compared to your peers, even when you're not trying. So be prepared that you may get bored very quickly.
