Cybersecurity/privacy culture at Deloitte/EY/KPMG/PWC?

I worked at Deloitte and KPMG before. So far, I like EY the best.

like

Deloitte :
1. My first firm. Made a lot of connections with other new hires (it’s always been special).
2. Fast paced culture.
3. Probably biggest Cyber team by head count amongst big 4. So there is a lot of opportunity to choose different kinds of projects that align with your interests.
4. Stronger brand in consulting.
5. Only thing I was unhappy with was that I was being screwed over with low pay and raises despite being a strong performer. This is probably the problem at every other Big 4 if you are hired out of college.
6. Good immigration support. They file your H1b in Premium. Process Green Card within 6 months of joining for experienced hires and after 2 years for those hires out of college.
7. Competitive when it comes to promotion. It is typical for people to spend a bit longer at every level than other Big 4 for a promotion. C -> SC can take 2-3 years and SC -> M can take 3-4 years.

KPMG:
1. The firm prides itself in work life balance. Relatively less fast paced than other Big 4 (never worked a weekend when I was there).
2. Lower raises and bonuses (even for experienced hires).
3. Still maturing in core technology capabilities. No where near the other Big 4.
4. Very political when it comes to promotions. More so than the other firms I’ve been at.
5. Poorest immigration support amongst big 4. Don’t file H1b in Premium (you have to pay for it yourself). Very hard to get green card process initiated. Even if GC is initiated, you have to sign contracts about staying with the firm for like 4 years or so.

EY:

1. Good work culture. Strikes the right balance in terms of pace of work.
2. Pretty good projects.
3. Technology capabilities are good. Offshore teams are well trained and can scale to US market demand.
4. Had very good raises since joining. Bonuses are okay but base salary grew over 35% last year alone. Personally, EY paid the best so far.
5. Frequent recognition from leadership got good work. Received 7 bravo awards and an ovation award (total over $1500 last year alone).
6. Environment is less political. People give credit where it’s due. Was able to get promoted within 1 year of joining.
7. Best immigration support I have experience so far (better than other Big 4 but may not compare to tech companies). They file both H1b and i140 in Premium. Started my GC process within 3 months of joining. The lawyer handling my case is very responsive and timely.

EY1 what rank are you? And how long were you at EY before they kicked off your GC process?

Really E1: Deloitte and KPMG that bad!

Deloitte was nice. KPMG was the worst.

EY1 can you provide some reasons why you enjoyed EY/ Deloitte and not KPMG? Looking to get a little more insight

@E1. Thanks for that detail. What area are you in?

Ey1 - Good summary! How do you compare work life balance, stress level and travel across these firms?

@SC 1 - I specialize in IAM. @EY2 - that was just my experience with respect to immigration. EY Law did my H1 transfer in Premium in 3 weeks. I am at i140 stage now. I140 will be filed with Premium processing as well. They started the PERM process last year in September. Even location based H1b amendments were filed in time. Really I had nothing to complain about. KPMG does nothing in Premium and they didn’t have the decency to FedEx H1b approval notice, it was actually sent in USPS regular post (wtf!!). KPMG wasn’t event starting my GC and they asked me to sign a contract to stay with the firm for 4 years or pay back $15000 when they finally agreed to file. I know PwC doesn’t file premium for H1b or i140. Gathering from other Deloitte people on FB, seems like they have a lot of problems with their law firm (GGS). Have you experienced any specific problems with EY’s handling of your immigration?

@EY3 - I think Deloitte probably has the most stress, given the competition and the work culture. Also since Cyber practice is already established, you will need to really try hard to differentiate yourself and break into circles of power. KPMG has the least stress and the firm in general is risk averse (so less complex / unknown projects). EY is somewhere is between.

Would you be open to talking with me about the process? I am receiving zero guidance and conflicting answers.

I know who you are EY1...

Career / family: I am with a small firm with in the PNW, having moved 2 years ago from a large east coast city. I am ok with my current situation- the work is mostly interesting, the hours are fine (especially now with WFH and less travel), firm management claims that finances are strong (and we haven’t had pay cuts or layoffs and are actually hiring). But my family HATES it here. I have a potential opportunity for a high level in-house job in the Midwest, close to my hometown and family...

Hi everyone - I’m new to this bowl and I’ve recently received a job offer which requires me to relocate. I am hoping to get some pointers or advice to help me with my apt search.

I am married in my mid-20s. The office will be in Mountain View. I am hoping to spend under $3500 per month for rent. My wife and I are opposite in terms of what we like, I enjoy outdoors activities, whereas she enjoys shopping 😅. We’re hoping to find a place that has both and I don’t mind driving a bit for work.
