Damn... A year and a half into my first agency and nothing to add to my portfolio. I work so hard every day at this. My self confidence is shot 😥

Keep your head up. Honestly, as a junior, I didn’t make anything in my agenices that I thought was book worthy - just print and social. Instead, I made fun, side projects which was what got me into my next agency as a midlevel.

Many, many agencies are struggling to create anything worthwhile since the Rise Of The Cost Consultants. You’re not alone.

@BBDO said this in more depth above but just want to reiterate - this timeframe has literally been covid. Please don’t feel bad! No one has been making the work that they had hoped to.

What do you work on? Even if it’s banners or print ads, if it’s a good headline then put it in your book. You’re a junior, so most people won’t expect to see big 360 campaigns or anything yet. Don’t sweat it.

seconded - i landed an amazing job at my top choice agency (granted, one that primarily does digital/paid social) through a book almost exclusively made up of paid social & screenshots of other miscellaneous landing page/email copy

It’s usually not a “you” thing, it’s a client / account management thing. Keep in mind that wins AND losses are a team sport. You’re doing fine. The 18 months of effort and focus are actually what matter at your stage of things. Stay dangerous.

It takes ages to get your first good work under your belt. Keep your chin up, keep pitching. Your career is a marathon, not a sprint. Don’t rush to titles, new agencies, or pay bumps. Do it on your own terms and in your own time.

You’re not alone. Been freelancing the whole time since I got out of ad school - week before lockdown. Got 1 TV spot - nothing conceptual. The rest is run of the mill social work. I’ve gotten mixed advice. Some say to wait to only show produced work you really like. Others say to be a little more liberal. I just put my produced work at the bottom of my website, just to show. As long as you show good writing, maybe it could help.

Manager 1. Transfer from audit into FDD (and have to do one more busy season in audit), or leave to a financial reporting job at a large public co for 40% raise?

Do you think I could expense a weekly meal delivery service (it’s precooked - just have to microwave it) during busy season? Would be delivered to the office and is cheaper than ordering in.
