Since my wife had to deal with them at that hour when I travelled, I got up with them on weekends so she could sleep in. We went to Starbucks and the playground. It was funny that I saw the same group of dads doing the same thing every weekend. Many years later now and I still am glad I got those times with them.

I do the same thing! I’m an early bird and so is my son. We go to playground before it gets busy.

If you want him to sleep in, you have to wait for the sullen teen age years.

I have a 15 month old and a newborn. Won’t be sleeping for a while. That’s the only “con” though. So much upside so creating a family.

It sucks

My 14 month old started waking up at 6AM 4 days ago. Usually it’s 7/7:30. Not sure if this is the new norm, but it’s throwing her naps for a loop lately.

Before we discovered Dr. Ferber, every night we made our son repeat “If I wake up and it’s still dark, I will roll over and go back to sleep.” It rarely worked despite his enthusiastic responses... after Ferberizing, life was awesome though

He was a pediatric sleep specialist at Children’s Hospital in Boston. He wrote a book called “Solve your child’s sleep problems” describing the Ferber Method or Ferberization. It’s a structured method to help them learn to sleep. Our first son was going to sleep late at night and waking up every hour or two throughout. After a couple of months, we were exhausted and a friend recommended the book. It was a lifesaver! He slept through the night after four nights. It only took three nights for our second son. We broke our older son when he was a few years old and he started to slip so we went to visit Ferber for help. His advice got him sleeping normally again within 3 nights. I give the book to all new Dads on my teams and they always come back and thank me. The man deserves a medal...

My husband has a strong sense of duty towards his parents - I’ve been very encouraging of it - making sure he has the freedom to be there for his family and parents in whatever way they need or want (e.g. sleeping over at his parents at least 2 nights, attending family events, making sure he goes to all their doc appts, maintaining a relationship with his sisters and their children, etc). His family and I are not from similar backgrounds so we have our struggles so I keep a distance (more below)

Do any moms work from home and have their baby at home with them? If so, how do you do it??? I have a 3 month old at home and my husband has her while I work upstairs but he goes back to work from his leave in a couple of weeks and I’ll be home to be with her and work. I’m nervous about it and just want to see what options I have - external childcare is not one of them at the moment.

EY Parental leave question: how many weeks were you actually out? When I took my leave 3 years ago, I counted total of 21 weeks of leave. That’s including one firm winter holiday week. I remember I initially thought I would be back after 16 weeks, but then in the middle of my time off I got an email from Leave Team with the breakdown and it actually was 21 weeks. Can someone who took leave recently tell me the actual number of weeks?

Please tell me I am doing the right thing regardless! I have emailed and called getting zero responses. Even including the principal!
