What are all the b4 FDD practices called?
Love the immediate “what an idiot” reaction from someone who doesn’t know anything about the person or what their career goals are. Did you think that this person might not have any interest in continuing on the B4 path or want anything to do with public accounting or even accounting in general?
EY1. I have been at the firm 7 years. I have a buddy from my start class who left in his second year. He worked his way up the ranks quickly, and if I were to interview for a job in that company, he would likely be my direct supervisor. This may be more of an exception but to call someone an idiot without any context to their personal situation or the role they got at the client, is idiotic.
EY 1 is under the assumption that being a senior in Big 4 audit carries weight. Sorry bud, it doesn’t.
Ey1 is just trying to validate him/herself for not moving when they had they chance
Someone that knows him personally: “he’s great”
Someone who knows nothing about him: “he probably isn’t all that great”
Dude just give it up already. You had a knee jerk reaction because you’ve been slugging the B4 kool-aid and assumed anyone who has decided to deviate from your dime a dozen plan is a moron. Your response that he either didn’t give it enough time to make an “informed decision” (he’s a grown adult) or that he should have stayed until senior (and I’m assuming at that point you might as well stay till manager, right?) proves this.
Yeah, he is.
I think I would hate to work for EY1
Can he really be that great if he’s dumb enough to leave as a staff?
If they're as great as OP says I doubt they'll be content to just coast.
There are many paths in life and just because they aren't following yours doesn't make them an idiot. EVEN if they do turn out to make less money, money isn't everything.
I bet he left for a double digit salary increase and a better work life for an interesting client that he could see himself grow with. What an idiot...
EY 1 - I thought we agreed you’d stop spouting the same “big 4 partner track or bust” nonsense that I hear from every washed up SM in the firm?
Do you honestly believe the stuff you’re saying? People grow as fast as they want to grow, people move around and advance their careers the best way they see fit. Just because you’re subscribed to this “don’t leave until you’re (insert level) or you’ll be destitute” BS spewed by PA lifers doesn’t mean it’s true (plenty of cases where it’s not) nor does it need to apply to everyone.
Seriously just take your L and stuff it in the firm issued backpack that I’m 99% positive you use based on your responses.
It carries more weight than being a staff, but agreed, not much
That mindset of telling people (who you don’t know) when they should and shouldn’t leave PA is the partner track or bust mentality. It is the hangover inducing sugar in the Big 4 kool-aid.
"There are a lot of roles that want big 4 experience”
Did the guy that OP’s talking about not just get a new role, with big 4 experience...?
D1, I did think about that. Someone with that outlook never should’ve started in public. If they developed this outlook while in public they are still a moron for these reasons:
1) if they decided this as a staff 1, then they’ve only been doing it for a few months and didn’t give it a long enough chance to make a truly informed decision
2) if they made the decision as a staff 2, then it’s very stupid not to stay until the summer (only another month or 2 of busy season to suffer thru) and get the senior title to put on their resume
Also, OP says the client snatched them up. Very unlikely client is hiring them to do some non-accounting related job, right?
In short, this guy is an idiot no matter how you slice it
Validate what? I can leave at any time, I’m not trapped here. Just saying, this guy probably isn’t all that great and the job will be fine without him
I bet he doesn’t “grow” there as fast as he thinks he will and his peers who stay pass him in salary in a couple years and then leave and are his boss. Should we keep playing hypotheticals?
I don’t think he ever said partner track or bust. Senior or manager opens up more doors for you in accounting exit opps. That’s just a fact. I wouldn’t call that person an idiot but it’s likely not the best move.. Not absolute though of course. And KPMG 1 it actually does carry some weight, there are a lot of roles that want big 4 experience.
Who are these fools? Not the staff the commenters. You either stay 1 year and get big 4 on resume or wait to manager. Anyone in between us the fool.
