Data & Analytics

Data might be slightly outdated as of time in posting this. Could this provide evidence that isolation in US is working compared to Italy? Rate of change for US looks slightly more shallow than Italy.

That’s the other caveat I’m thinking about. Not sure how much to read into this data if anything. Just reading a lot about the US “going full on Italy” and trying to find data to support/refute that claim

I find the us healthcare system to be lacking. Absurd. For a country with so much R&D money, the efficiency is so low.

Again, you are right. I honestly don’t care that much that the president is investing in the company that is trying to create the cure (assuming this is his personal business), if anything that may give the company incentive to actually succeed and save lives along with making money. The ugly parts are not really mentioned here, it’s in the lack of action, management, adequacy, honesty, appropriate transparency and support with his role as president. The healthcare system is not the best and it does need to be fixed. I am not sure how.

I think that’s the biggest caveat, the data will not really be comparable if they’re each capturing data differently. I’m guessing the only thing you can do is see if US will trend differently because of “social distancing” and if the curve does flatten then I am guessing it is working. That tableau screengrab doesn’t look like the US is flattening, just looks delayed. I think the US curve should spike more sharper if we’re freely testing and reporting the results.

I’ll definitely say I don’t know one way or another which is right. Hearing a lot of comparison between US and Italy in terms of the virus so, thought I’d try to compare what the two look like in the John Hopkins dataset. Maybe I should filter the date range to when both countries look like they’re going “exponential”...
