Day 7 at the new job. WLB isn’t what I thought, not doing what I really want to focus on. REALLY trying to stay optimistic and learn but it’s hard. I don’t regret leaving ACN at all but I don’t know how I’m going to survive a year of this.

Cmon man. Give it like 2-3 months for your first impression to sink in. Day 7 you probably haven’t even done fire code training yet...

likefunny

For context, I think I’m EXTREMELY traumatized by consulting where I’d get on a project and was told it’d be XYZ and then instead it very quickly proved to be ABC with some or non XYZ and then I learned nothing and wasted time. I’m just worried this is a same situation.

like

Yup and thats why I left A3. That will keep happening and you won’t learn actual skills. Suffered that for 3 years, couldn’t take it.

like

... chill a little. It is just day 7. Worst days are ahead xD kidding, but seriously, give it a little time. Not saying it will change but, it may.

like

Continue to stay optimistic. You’re on day 7. We’re in the middle of a pandemic. There’s a lot of external factors that make your new job abnormal

like

I think for you OP it's a matter of having realistic expectations. I was like that at A, I understand the feels of being told this project is gonna be all cool and you end up doing boring crap, I used to get super bummed like I'm wasting my life but it is what it is what. I've come to expect it so I don't get disappointed with things I can't control. This is not to say stop trying for the genuinely interesting things.

Someone once told me it takes on average 3 months to adjust to a big change, in that time anxiety levels will be elevated, its normal. Sit tight, expect nothing and try not to be disappointed with things outside your control

likehelpful

Man A really messes people up huh? That makes sense though. I’ve always been really bad about not caring about things out of my control (consulting def didn’t help with that) but this is a huge adjustment (and one that comes in the middle of a pandemic and everything that goes with that), so it makes sense I need to give it more time.

Where did you move to?

like

I would also think that WLB isn’t what it normally is anywhere right now, since everyone is working remote

like

Very true. And this team had a major push on an accelerated schedule due to covid so unfortunately I’m getting some of that. I moved to internal consulting as well so I think that’s also a factor where if I were in more of an individual contributor role, the WLB would be better.

like

Do you think you did good DD before joining

I thought I did. Again this could be the consulting trauma I mentioned above so I’m being too quick to judge. Or they straight up lied 🤷‍♀️ who knows
