Day in the (professional) life of a Partner at your firm? Are they generally on the client site with your team(s) helping to deliver?

Yes. Our model is a bit different and our partners actually work at client and spend long hours. They might distribute their time among different clients over a week, but they do tend to clock in long hours. I have been in several projects where analysts and managers leave the client site much earlier than the partner leaves (acceptable culture at our firm). This might be reassuring for non-partners, but unfortunately even when you become a partner at our firm you have to continue ‘working’.

12:00 am: still fluffing a c-suite exec at a bar. 2:00 am: last call 2:25 am: jumbo slice. 2:30 am: email senior associate and ask if they incorporated those incomprehensible edits you made to the pitch deck that you barely read yet insisted is critical 2:45 am: check in at JW Marriott. Those front desk fools know you by name because you are double lifetime titanium (a position accidentally created by the sloppy Accenture-led merger) 6:30 am: Wake. Cry a little. Email senior associate again with a snarky email to remind them that you are an alpha. 6:35 am: vomit 6:45 am: shower 6:55 am: vomit again 7:00-7:30am: send out a bunch of one-sentence emails that convey, through tone and brevity, how absurdly busy you are yet still waiting for that pitch deck. 7:30 am: enjoy a nice egg white omelet, because your spouse wants you to take better care of yourself. 8:00 am: purchase a “Charlie Sheen” from Starbucks (a venti glass of espresso) 8:30 am: arrive at client 1 office. Kick that implementation team who is in the middle of a go-live out of their war room because you need to make an important call 8:35 am: call spouse. Talk to kids. 9:00 am: see client 1, sell some vapor ware. 10:00 am: receive revised pitch deck from terrified senior associate who has contemplated quitting 12 times over the past 2 hours. Don’t read the deck because you don’t need slides. 10:30 am: arrive at client 2. Crush sales pitch. Don’t even reference slides. 11:30 am: early lunch with client 2. Pick up lunch and charge it to the budget of the implementation team that you relocated earlier. 1:00 pm: call with career coach to listen to how you really need to delegate and empower more people around you. 2:00 pm: send an additional round of terse emails. Remind everyone they need to move faster, cheaper, and are doing a wonderful job 3:00 pm: receive call from finance about how your projects are behind on billing 3:30 pm: receive call from line manager that one of your associates may fail a drug test. 4:00 pm: decide that your accounts receivable issue is approximately 200x more important than your associate with booger sugar problems. 4:30 pm: follow up with Client 2. Ask about taking him to golf. Get soft rejection of both golf game, and vapor ware pitch. Curse yourself for not waiting long enough Decide to blame senior associates’s delayed pitch deck. Mark the opportunity as 70% in salesforce. 5:00 pm: head to airport to fly to another city for another sales pitch. Ask client 3 if they want to grab drinks. 8:30 pm: land/get rental car and head to bar to meet client 9:00 pm: late dinner, drinks, actually sell a small assessment project over your third round of scotch 11:00 pm: relocate to another bar. Shoot Senior associate an email letting them know that you want to see them in your office first thing next Monday. 11:59 pm: still fluffing a c-suite exec at a bar.

Bravo SM1, extra points for the Charlie Sheen

Can’t beat SM1. For GT, they’ll stroll in around noon. Summon you to a meeting without any regard for your schedule. Ask why they haven’t gotten a deliverable they didn’t ask for, why you haven’t made changes they didn’t share, and tell you your financials are too low. Then leave for the golf course

If all the top consulting firms made anonymous decks or gave anonymous pitches to a client, eg no branding and the client did not know which firm made which deck, do you actually think that the client would prefer MBB? Is MBB actually coming up with better/more innovative solutions? I feel like I see many repeat or slightly altered solutions on almost all of my cases, are these really things that people at Deloitte/Accenture etc aren’t coming up with?

Hi my exp is 5 years now, and I gave interview interview at TCS at 4.10 years of exp. I got an offer from TCS with 16 CTC ( including 50k RI) and 2.5 joining bonus. I have other offer with Accenture with 13.24 fixed+21% variable = 16L and 3.3L joining bonus. Which is best to join? And i know that the project with TCS is purely SuccessFactors and I don’t know which project I am into for Accenture. Please suggest

I’m all for sleeveless outfit (as long as not overly revealing) is acceptable for women in non-client facing video calls but interestingly I’ve never seen any man going sleeveless in front of the camera (myself included). Are guys just less comfortable in this situation (again, same situation as girls - internal calls, working from home, and working out or doing house chores in between meetings... etc)? How do you feel when you see your guy coworkers in sleeveless outfits?

Im a recent grad on a tech implementation project for a small firm. I’m finding it challenging because I’m expected to know how to solution a user problem based on the system that I really don’t know all the ins and outs of. I enjoy the req gathering/PMO activities, but thinking of data mapping and integrations is such a new way of thinking than a typical strategy-based case study. Do strategy ppl find these tech implementation difficult?

Are consultants only seemingly more capable (at times) because we dedicate all our client-facing time on a single project vs. juggling multiple projects? All my client's leadership teams seem like a mess but I think it's just due to their lack of opportunity to focus on anything for long enough to know what's going on. Am I thinking about this completely wrong?
