Is that what you want? Or do you need to have a heart to heart with your husband on this? 1) the pandemic is temporary (albeit doesn’t feel that way) 2) your husband is capable of setting boundaries at work it just may take practice.

My project and client are very demanding. It took me awhile to transition back after taking the full maternity leave + PTO but the client or project leadership were expecting the same level of effort and work that I produced pre-baby. I’m stuck on the project for a few more months and I’m hoping that this is a one off because I’d like to try something else.

While you may have reasons for wanting to find a new job outside of your current childcare situation and WLB, I don’t think changing jobs will solve for the root issue here it’s your SO. You need to sit down and have a serious conversation about roles and sharing responsibilities. Your child needs both of you involved.

I told him this morning that I understood that work has been hard lately, but I needed him to step it up. He seemed to understand and was more helpful than usual today with baby and related tasks (cleaning bottles, etc), but we’ll see how long it lasts. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Make a schedule so he can share the childcare load. One takes mornings and one takes afternoons..

What are your long term life goals? I don’t have a strong urge to have children but I also struggle to envision my life and fulfillment post 40 without kids (I never had any good examples of child free adults). So I’d love to hear from people here on what motivates them and gives them long term meaning, especially the slightly older crowd. Where do you derive greater meaning from? What do you build to after decades of life?

I found out today that my employer doesn’t offer any paid parental leave (maternity or paternity). This isn’t a major issue now, but my wife and I are planning on trying in a year or so from now. How many other employers don’t offer any paid leave at all? Coming from public accounting this seemed outrageous to me, but curious to see what other companies are like.

I had a non traditional path out of law school because I graduated at the height of the Great Recession and my mother was seriously I’ll with cancer. I’ve worked for 2 big four firms in internal positions within compliance/regulatory for a total of 6+ years and am ready to make a move. What is my next best one? Is it totally impossible for me to go to a law firm?

Do any women have experience working with an elderly care attorney or dealing with LTC for parents? I’m 25 and don’t have any friends dealing with this to seek advice. My widowed, health-challenged mother (late 60s) needs more care. Compounding this issue is the fact that she wouldn’t qualify for LTC insurance and while she has some savings (think mid-six figures), it’s certainly not enough for potentially 20 years of care (don’t want her to be broke/with destitute care). Where do I even start?

My daughters step-mom sent me a message two months ago, just saw it tonight. They want to pay off the future obligation owed for child support, she turns 18 in two years. Total amount is $23k. My daughter has never met him. The wife said they think “it would be in the best interest of both parties.” The attorney generals office told them they don’t accept a lump sum payment, so not sure what I can do to facilitate this. Opinions please? It sounds suspicious.

Anyone rethinking the number of kids they are trying for / had based upon a birth experience? We always talked about 3 but after a traumatic experience with baby 2, I’m scared. She was in the NICU and while she is home and fine…I saw so many babies who weren’t. I “knew” a healthy baby isn’t guaranteed at the end of the pregnancy but I really saw that in the NICU. I don’t know about trying for a third, I’m scared. We already have 2 beautiful kids. I feel like I’m tempting fate.

Looking for a nicer car (think Lexus, Infiniti - also open to other options). I own a used 2016 Ford Fusion that I’m bored of. We do have a baby on the way but I want a car that handles well and offers more power. While I love sedans, it’s going to be difficult with a baby. Any advice? I don’t want to pay >$500

I am noticing that McKinsey is increasingly recruiting at non-elite schools (very roughly speaking not top 15 schools). At my old undergrad, 5 years ago the most competitive firm to show up was EY. This year McKinsey took 4 non-internship full hires. Why is McKinsey going “down market” for recruiting? Are elite school kids losing interest in consulting so McK has to cast a wider net? Or is McK seeking a wider pool for other reasons? I advise undergrads on consulting so want to be best informed.

Just switched jobs. Old 401k has more than $5k and new 401k is with a different provider. Is there any reason whatsoever to move the old 401k cash anywhere, either to the new 401k or to an IRA? Given that it's more than $5k, it can stay there indefinitely, right? I'm fine with the investment options with my old 401k. And I can transfer it over to a new IRA or new 401k anytime, even years in the future, right? Given that no distribution will come to force the 60 day rule?
