Deal lawyer’s dream job: in-house working reasonable hours (40-50/week with real vacay), paid the same as BigLaw (after accounting for equity) with better benefits, and still get to work on complex, challenging and interesting work. Even comes with a little taste of the business side as a cherry on top.

Does it exist? If so, how do you get there?

There are many alternative routes for legal professionals... I created my own company, doing legal consulting and deals and make way more than I would ever make as a partner in big law.,,

like

What is legal consulting?

like

It does exist, but salary capped except for hybrid business / legal roles.

So if you are 4th year big law and go in-house you can make generally the same, but a partner or senior associate will likely take a pay cut

like

Eh totally depends on the relationship you have with that partner. I’ve had mentors in my life when I was an associate that absolutely would have, but I think it’s a different era.

That said, talk to a few recruiters these job postings were everywhere, at least pre-covid

Don’t forget to negotiate for a daily foot rub and nap time.

I generally work more hours than that but I feel like that’s basically my job. I work in family law in Canada and I’m on a commission based/bonus structure so I can work as hard as I want to make as much as I want. No one cares if I come or go or if I take vacation. It’s a smaller boutique firm and I’ve worked very hard so I’ve earned their trust/respect.

Yeah, so, that’s not at all what I was asking but glad you’ve got a great job!

I’m still in my first year at Deloitte as a campus-hire. Feeling like this position isn’t for me, not fully enjoying what I’m doing, don’t feel like my coworkers value my work/me (I only work with men), and feeling like I am not getting adequate opportunities to grow my knowledge/experience in the work I do and also cross-department opportunities.

Either way, I'm curious if anyone would know why I only received 25 months of education benefits. I was 100% active for 4 years, 3 deployments to Iraq, honorable discharge etc. And wondering if there is any way to extend my benefits and get the 36-48 months that seems to be standard.

Hi ladies! An old chestnut but would still love to hear your advice: i am fairly certain a key senior stakeholder is being difficult because he perceives me as a senior non white woman trying to boss him around. I have heard that he doesn’t like to surround himself with people cleverer than him in fear of them taking over his job, which to me further confirms this is a possibility. What can/should I do? Looking to leave but trying to conceive ( 1 year now and having fertility issue). I am sticking around cause the flexibility is great with me need to see RE and get blood draw. But also concerned I'm just going to end up not leaving if I never get pregnant :( Upcoming year will be a new client for me and I know it'll bring stress. However a new role in industry might not be as easy either and I'll need to prove myself, where as currently I'm already regarded as a high performer and gained trust.
