HI folks,
My current CTC is very low with respect to my YOE. CTC : 5.2 lpa
YoE : 4
Tech stack : Python , MLops
But now my manager has initiated H1B visa for me and the visa process is in progress.
Is it worth to wait till the H1B process completes to work in U.S (74k package) (or) should i make a switch immediately. ?

I'm in the same dilemma. My GC process has started but it would be atleast another 6-7 months before I get i140 and that's the best case scenario. My h1b expires in 2019. I'm not sure if I should risk it or put up with it?
I got my i140 in January this year... what you need to understand is the time line... if your employer has already completed recruitment process and filed i140 then you should wait... the reason why I say this is because of time... most company starts GC after 6 months or 12 months unless there is a real crunch on resource from company side...after 12 month you looking at additional 8-10 months for I-140 ... and to my knowledge to file for h1 extension after 6 years your labor certification needs to be approved before 1 year of expire of 6 year cap ( at the end of fifth year minimum)...
I'm in the exact same boat :/
Guys sorry to say but the winning strategy is to suck it up and eat shit until the i-140 is approved. In the meanwhile, do keep looking for that dream role in the industry and keep networking.
PERM 9089 application should be filed one year before the maximum visa validity date. Plan accordingly.
With 2 years remaining, if you move it would be really difficult to get past i140 at the new place
Yea most firms don't hire people with only 2 years remaining..
^Yeah exactly. I guess it's best to just wait it out folks!
Has anyone gotten their i140 in 2016/2017? Can you tell how long it takes..is it taking realty that long? Without premium processing..etc..
If the new firm says it can start your gc right away, I think it's doable.
As for current firm, you will need to wait for 6 months after the 140 approval to ensure they cannot cancel your gc process , and most prospective employers will ask for this
KPMG is actually worse :p I had got a call last year, and after they got to know my H1 status, they didn't wanna go ahead even with little less than three years left! They said they need 3 or more, cray!
Yea kpmg is the worst..it's black hole of the process..they make you wait until you have 2 years left in h1b before even considering for gc..and they make you sign a waiver to pay back attorney fees/filling fees invade you quit your the firm you have to payback..if you quit the firm 2 years after gc you still pay 50%
I took a chance. Moved to PwC from EY with 2.5 years remaining on my H1b. Moved on the condition that they will begin my processing right away. PwC kept their word. Time will tell if it's a good decision or not
It's a dying firm..not even sure what we specialize in anymore
Pay is subpar with what other firms pay..no solid clients or methodologies in up and coming techs..
Tbh life isn't great after i140 either (:
D3: can you explain why you think life isn't great after i140? Is it still limiting you in anyway to switch companies..etc?
Yeah it's still a pain in the ass to switch jobs with visa processing wait time up to 6 months. Of course it gives some stability but don't expect your life to change post i140. Sucks but...
But can't we join with h1b transfer receipt? We don't have to wait until 6 months for approval..correct?
My H1B will maxout in Feb 2021. Current petition is valid till Feb 2019. Waiting for PERM to be approved. I-140 has not been filed yet. Can I switch without jeopardizing my status?
