Dear fishes, recently I was interviewed for lead position by two good product based companies and I cleared all the rounds, but both HRs are saying, you are technically good so we can offer you senior software engineer position not the lead position.

For senior software position, I will get Max 15% hike only.

For lead position, I will get around 30% to 40% hike.

CCTC : 18 LPA
Tech : Quality assurance lead (automation + functional + performance testing)

How to deal with this situation?

If companies don't share compensation ranges for different levels do people just assume it's good and that's enough motivation to move up?

Trying to apply for another position at the same company but my boss told me explicitly that if they find out people on our team are looking for other jobs, they will stop giving that person raises, promotions, bonuses, & access to opportunities. I have spoken with the hiring manager for the new position and he just asked me if I have notified my current manager. Not sure how to navigate this tricky situation. I’ve always had to do them in interviews, but also don’t love that they’ve usually been ‘free thinking’ and often intensive, or don’t really help you understand their thinking.
