Is the hype real? Working for google
Hey Googlers, I’m going in for my GCP TAM second round on Monday and had a few QQs for you all:
1. For the RRK2 case study if there is a scenario for handling peak time workloads where the client did a lift & shift of a monolithic architecture, is the best suggestion to move them to micro services to enable serverless and auto scaling features?
2. I was told that they’ll give me 15 mins to prep after the case study is shared live, would you suggest I build a 1 pager or is that not required?Google

One thing that took me a while to realize is that, particularly when it comes to YOE requirements, things are very competitive. One of the reasons "down leveling" happens when coming to Google is because people apply to roles they are overqualified for.
In my case, I had 8 YOE and was apply to 8 YOE roles. In one case I had a referral on the same team who knew the hiring manager. I didn't get through the resume screen. The person that ended up filling that role had 12 YOE. I changed course a bit, and ended up applying at some lower YOE roles. I ended up landing and accepting a role that was initially listed as 5 YOE (it was still a pay raise). Just something to consider that helped me.

One quick clarification that may be helpful - don't over do this by taking 15YOE and applying for 2 YOE jobs. Roles have defined levels to them. I.e. a role may be a defined L3/L4 role. If you get this role, you cannot be brought in as an L6, for example.
Check Wonsulting.com, they have a lot of resources for people starting out (I don’t work for them), I used their resume guide to create my resume (they have a template you can use), and just signed an offer with Google.
Or you could be me - get all the way to a 4th rd interview that I thought was just a rubber-stamp conversation, and get rejected … 😢
(and the job is still posted, several weeks later)
Ah that hurts.
I have heard that a referral will at the very least have your resume reviewed by a human and they provide a response.
