Dear men: stop asking your female peers to schedule meetings for you. It’s a bad look. Just sayin’.

OP, before making any comments, I want you to clarify what you mean by PEERs here, are you 2 at the same level. Also if you are at the same level, is the other person the team lead? If you two are same level by all means, say CLEAR NO to the other person and make it clear that you have enough things of your own to do. I have grown in consulting from analyst to SC, and I have been asked to setup meeting by my leads and I ask other people on my team to setup meetings these days.

like

Context is everything here. I’m sure OP probably doesn’t have a problem when her team needs a meeting scheduled and jumping into helping/ organizing. I don’t think anyone is “above” scheduling meetings. But, when you’re frequently the one being asked by peers to schedule meetings - especially one offs with only one other person - and it becomes an expectation, it becomes a problem. And it does happen far more to women than men. Yes men also schedule meetings and take notes. No that doesn’t mean they are automatically champions of equality in the workplace

THANK YOU!

Dear women: if I ask you to do something, remember I would have said the same thing to a man in your place

annnnnnd freaking post is a crash course in misogyny

like

Lol this is just stupid. I’m a guy and get asked by partners (both male and female) to set up meetings or take notes. It’s not a gender thing it’s a laziness thing / delegating thing by seniors

like

Peers is ambiguous at least colloquially. I tend to view everyone on my team as a peer since the leadership likes to promote a flat org culture even if it's not 100% true in reality.

Female new joiners - cancel any manager that asks you to set up a meeting 🥸

Cancel anyone who doesn’t do work they’re asked to.

OR take notes in meetings. F’ing take your own notes, I am not your assistant.

Do you not read people?? OP said PEERS not direct reports

The responses to this post made me really sad sigh. I guess now we know why businesspeople aren’t known for their smarts... :(

like

Wtf, if you're staff on my engagement, you're taking notes and setting up meetings and that has nothing to do with your gender..

EY5, this ain’t it.

I am a man and get asked by men and women leaders to make meetings all the time. I’ve also been asked to take notes during calls. This is just how it is.

SC2 - What if those asks are coming in weekly? My team has two managers (myself and a male colleague) and I get asked by the Partner to book meetings, edit documents, manage resources, pull financials, etc. every other day while the other Manager has a significantly higher salary and doesn’t get asked to do any of the “admin” work. We have similar backgrounds.

It sucks to hear that there are men in this profession who still behave like this

Fair but also needs more context. Peers, okay, but a 4th year SC is gonna be delegating work to a 1st or 2nd year SC. Same with other levels. There is seniority between peer levels. This goes for no matter what gender.

likehelpful

You got different problems if you’re a 4th year SC.

As a female manager, I frequently ask my junior male colleagues to capture notes and send calendar invites....it’s more of a role-based thing than a discrimination thing. The guys won’t want to work with us if we keep pulling that card. They will keep undercutting. Fortune 500 has a lot of catching up to do before our buyers of professional services are anything but old white men. So help yourselves a little bit and let’s not get too belligerent. Thx.

likesmart

Accenture 3. That’s only ok if the men are not from working class background otherwise it’s discrimination as the working class have always had to do the crap jobs and you might be perpetuating the discrimination.

My peers and I ask each other to set up meatings all the time. The only lived experience here is that of an SJW living in a world of self manufactured oppression.

My Project Manager is a woman I guess I'm sexist for respecting her position.

A peer isn't just someone that has the exact same role as you. Lots of projects have PMs that are not the direct managers of the other team members. Male resource leading technical side (staff level: manager), female resource leading PMP 'project management' side (also staff level: manager) Wow y'all sure accuse people of not being able to read any time you can't make a decent point.
