The threads are definitely meant to be removed. If you like the way they maintain the shape of the garment, have your tailor do a permanent, hidden stitching.
In my first year, while visiting a big client, the in house attorney's secretary pulled me aside. I was wearing a new suit I bought for the visit. Then this angel posing as a secretary quickly snipped my threads before her boss showed up to meet us. The partner didn't see either. Then she winked.
I'll love her forever.
So, you’re saying I should cut the brand label off the left sleeve before I wear it to work?
See this in court all this time, but I’m guilty too!
I had to tell my partner this earlier in the week...age isn’t everything.
I just assumed it's something you eventually learn when you start wearing suits! Only a matter of time?
I’m now starting to not understand: why is this a big deal to some people? I knew about this and I’ve never cared. Like a thought about someone else’s skirt or jacket vent simply isn’t a thing for me.
Not gatekeeping.
Does it really bother some people? I like to keep the threads in some places like pockets because it keeps the shape.
I have suits over worn for 3+ years. Cut vents day 1, still can’t use the pockets.
I’ve forgotten to do this before (rushing to get to a client meeting/court/wherever) and it always makes my skin crawl when I realize what I did 😅
I did the same thing recently! It has bothered me for the past 3 weeks.
It’s a look
Can we get an illustrated guide with photos please? Lol.
I think it's for illustration lol
Also. Those are called “vents.”
Good to know!
I think it adds style and says “hey I just bought this” or “hey this looks like I just bought this but I bought it a year ago.”
No one is paying that much attention to others...and if they are.....they have some issues to deal with internally.
Also, never button the bottom button of a jacket or vest! Silly, but I’ve had one boss inform me before I learned of this faux pas and another later on that complimented my knowledge of the rule. I don’t particularly care about this or the stitching issue, but some others might.
Quick google search dates it to King Edward VII. He was too big to button his last button so the nobility adopted the practice. It became a rule that’s still followed so suits and vests are now cut in such a way that the bottom button is supposed to be left unbuttoned. Having said that, I don’t think it’s a big deal either way.
