The finance people took over advertising and drove it into decline by chasing short term payoffs at the expense of agency health. What else is new.
Lol I was just going to say the same thing. Go read Madison Avenue manslaughter and see how the client fee evolved over the years. Media use to be a cash cow until the clients demanded more.
Ogilvy hasn’t believed in creativity in a very long time. Other big agencies have. That’s what’s destroyed it’s reputation and culture. Big places like BBDO and even McCann still fight for it
Didn’t Ogilvy do the moldy whopper ad? Would say that’s pretty creative.
AKQA and Ogilvy are too simmilar.

“Ogilvy’s travails are not unique. After the formation of the holding companies in the 1980s, they yanked the media departments away from the creative agencies, hoping to avoid account conflicts and generate an additional revenue stream. But that very action harmed the ability of the creative agency to be an effective brand steward, and fragment strategy and services.”
Can’t tell how many times we didn’t win a business because we were too big & complicated in the brand’s eyes, and having to have so many different agencies manage everything was not ideal for them.
I worked there when they just moved to the Chocolate Factory.
I wonder what a hypothetical Ogilvy–AKQA merger would be named. OgilvAKQA? AKQAgilvy?
