Debate: Which hotel chain is best/your favorite and why?

Westin - consistency

Hyatt. They take care of their elites the best. I'm diamond at Hilton, platinum Marriott. Platinum Starwood. Always felt the best at Hyatt. Give them a try. The issue with Hyatt is number of properties. Otherwise, my favorite.

like

I generally have a plan every year for status. I try to do 25 stays at a Starwood, then try to get to my 75 Marriott, so I am at least platinum at both. The Hilton was to try it out last year. Didn't like them. Hyatt I couldn't do because of my project locations. Basically, any hotel I walk into I will have some type of recognition, regardless of project location. I'm also hedged against things like Starwood Marriott merger now.

like

Yeah. Works well if the properties are physically close to each other. Little bit of a pain, but not impossible. Plus you get bonus arrival points every time.

like

I've heard Hyatt is great but also concerned with number of properties

like

The benefits are close to the same as the other top tiers, you can find that easily online. But the value comes in with the personal touch you get at each hotel. I even have had access to a "diamond only" elevator. The points are also valuable. Status is valuable when other people don't have it. With Hyatt you won't be just another Marriott platinum. I got more suite upgrades on average I would say. Your experience may very, but Hyatt people are generally very complementary. More so than your fiercely loyal Starwood people. Sheratons suck. I'm in a Westin right now, but I hate the domestic Sheraton product.

like

I'm not on the road any more than you. To get the 25 stays I typically do the 1 night check in check out. Takes some work for a few weeks, but pays off later on. Never had an ambassador, but I hear they are hit or miss. Platinum tiers at Starwood aren't actually that differentiated.

like

Also hotel credit cards, duh, help you get your elite nights quicker.

I love the andaz, better than W in my experience

SPG by far. Im platinum at SPG , elite platinum at Marriott, diamond at Hyatt and whatever is the highest at Hilton. SPG treats you like royalty when you travel abroad, I've literally been upgraded to $2,000+/night suites in Europe because having platinum is a lot rarer than having status with Marriott/Hyatt/Hilton. Those hotel chains have way too many high level status members to accommodate, so not as many perks. Speaking only from an international travel perspective.

like

Huh Hyatt? Never considered that. What perks does their diamond provide that you feel trumps the others?

Nice; what turned you off about Hilton?

And, I have to ask, how many nights out of the year are you not traveling?

1 night check in, as in every night you stay you check in and out?

Thank you!

I'm fully vaxed but I can't help but wonder... this is what the Anti-Vaxers have been warning and saying the whole time and it's making me second guess which side I'm on...

Hey everyone! Recent transplant (26 F) who moved here during Covid (family reasons) so still not quite familiar with the areas. I’m currently living in Brentwood but looking to move. I’m considering Marina Del Rey as I want to be a bit closer to the office (in Venice) and the airport for when things open back up/travel resumes. I tried searching here but didn’t see a lot - what is the reputation of Mar Vista (and if possible - how is that different than Brentwood?). All opinions welcome! 🙂

I know we all love the work from home (or do we?) but does anyone actually miss traveling for their consulting engagements and all the fun that goes along with it? The late nights at the office then the bar and random hookups and excitement and all that? Sure it’s a grind but I think I actually miss it too. Maybe I just miss seeing people at work or seeing people at all. I wonder if we’ll ever get back to that.
