I would save, buying the Sinn won’t scratch the itch if the iwc is where your heart is. It will just be a detour that will cost you more time and money in the long run. But then again, detours aren’t necessarily a bad thing, just understand it will make your goal longer to attain.

Tough question. I own the Sinn and it was my daily watch for a few years. As an everyday watch, it’s phenomenal - versatile styling that works pretty much anytime, reliable movement, relatively economical, and well built. I recommend it.
The IWC is the luxury version. It has an improved (if not fully in-house) movement with 120 hours of power reserve. That’s nice, but it’ll increase servicing costs, and if you’re wearing the watch daily, then the power reserve isn’t really a concern.
If you’re thinking about brand prestige / recognizability of these: nobody outside of watch nerds is going to know anything about these two watches. I’m just as likely to compliment a Sinn in the wild as I am an IWC Mk XX. Chicks will not notice or care about either one of these more than the other.
I think the answer to your question is the “buy once, cry once” adage. If you’re going to buy the Sinn and look down at your wrist and have the IWC in the back of your mind, then just save up. If you genuinely like the Sinn better and you are worried you’ll miss out by not spending more, I think that’s the better option. But I like the indices better than Arabic numerals anyway.

Sm1 and M1 nailed it. All I can say is that I chose a Sinn 104 as my first big boy watch a couple years ago and I have not regretted it a single day since. Sinn is a fantastic brand and the 556i is one of the most incredible value propositions out there. Can’t go wrong with the brand.
Check out the Longines Spirit as an alternative. Better metal brushing and finish when you see it in person. Nice bracelet and clasp as well.

Right now I can’t think of a brand I respect more in terms of variety across their offerings.
They have some of the nicest looking most underrated dress watches. They have great priced high quality divers in the Hydroconquest. They have strong reliable GADA choices in the conquest and spirit. And what seems to be an awesome GMT.
They’ve been killing it lately for sure
Was in the same boat of either saving (and waiting) for an explorer vs. quickly picking up a 556. I wear it pretty much daily (changing the straps) and I’m quite content and not even sure if I want the explorer anymore.
Appreciate the insightful answers - have decided on a Sinn 556i RS

Have an IWC and thinking about a sinn for the value and incredible materials. They make great looking, tough watches
