Definitely in a bad mood lately due to the increased work load. Considering PTO just to relax and figure out a better routine where my days aren’t just about work. How do you guys maintain a well balanced routine?

Yes, pls do. Your mental health is so much more important.

It’s small but I wake up and take a 45 min walk every morning, it sets a good tone to my day and leaves me less stressed

Yes! Loved it. Great way to start the day. Just got done with work though 🤦‍♀️

Just request the time off. Three things can happen: 1) You take time off, no problem; 2) You get permission to take time off no problem, but then your manager makes you work anyway; 3) You don't get permission to take time off. In all 3 cases you learn about your team and with that knowledge you're better off than you were before.

At Deloitte, taking a PTO is punishment because when you come back you have more work than you are already handling.

So true 🙄

Same, OP! It’s hard when there’s nowhere to go and nothing to do but it is really taking a toll on my health- mental and physical- to not change anything.

100% agree with you! I haven’t been taking PTO much since I know there’s nothing to do but I can FEEL it affecting my mood daily!

Take time off. Also, almost no one has a normal routine these days.

Create a self-care plan. Start marking time in your daily schedule to take time for yourself.

I just took a week off and was a tourist in my own state. Staying in a hotel away from home was a great way to recharge.

I clean my plate, slowly. I only ask for seconds when I’m really hungry. Some days I practice intermittent fasting when the buffet line doesn’t end. Good luck OP.

I’ve always been a social person and enjoy the team environment. However, as I move up in the firm and over the past few months, I’ve become very anxious for both internal and external meetings/calls and work in general. I’ve been working long hours since August and will continue to do so until April. The holiday breaks are making me anxious, as I’m expecting to be asked to work and not be able to disconnect. Not looking for sympathy, just some late night PA thoughts.

Word of warning, check your employee handbook about unused PTO. Apparently in New York State, even with labor laws protecting unpaid PTO, if it’s written in any employee handbook or material that unused PTO is waived when you quit, that‘s all the employer has to do to get out of paying you.

2nd year in and having gone straight from undergrad to banking, cant imagine what it feels like to have a “normal job” (i.e. 9-5, weekend free, no work on vacation, can unplug completely off work)

I accepted a new job, they said PTO was “generous.” I find out it’s 19 days a year of PTO (which includes sick days). I have two young children and we like to vacation 1-2x a year (no more than a few days away each time). Am I crazy that this is pretty limited time off? 8 of the normal holidays off during the year (working the week between Christmas and NYE). Thoughts? I dont know if lack of PTO is a good reason to back out, is it?

Just wrapped up a 10 day vacation - didn’t go too overboard on food and stayed pretty active but drank almost every day (not normal for me). Could this be why I’m so bloated and feeling large?

Does anybody here own a holiday home and rent it out? Thinking of building one but given there's barely any tourism I'm thinking my funds could go further elsewhere.

Just interviewed for this job that sounds superficially good but I think will take me back to the work I did 10 years ago but will pay my target salary and will have a fancy title (VP). I don't really want to do this but I need a job, have run out of UI and don't want to deplete my savings to nothing waiting for the perfect job. If offered, should I take it and continue looking or will it look bad? Changed jobs within 1 year once already. At least this job would be spinnable for what I want.
