Deloitte got pulled into a project with a manager I’ve gotten to know recently but I really am not interested in the project and it’s very different from my past project experiences. I think they picked me because they know me and the timing works out well. I don’t want to burn bridges by saying no to the project esp when they really need someone right now but I also have no desire to work on this for the next couple of weeks. Should I just suck it up or how do I go about this?

Do the work, build a relationship, learn something new. Are you billable on something else?

Are you backfilling me🤔 LOL, I suggest just being honest and say that a more lucrative opportunity has arisen that more closely aligns to to your desired career growth and apologize that it couldn’t work out right now and look forward to the next opportunity where you will get to work together. Speaking from personal experience, it’s better for both parties knowing what you want because 1) a couple weeks may turn into a long term engagement 2) it’s going to cause another headache for the manager if you request a rolll-off a couple weeks from now This is a cliche but honesty is truly the best policy and I don’t think you would burn any bridges if you were upfront

Alright obviously the word choice could be better and more professional - nevertheless agree to disagree🤝

How long is the project? How long is your role on it?

If it is couple months, do the work, build relationships and move on. If it is long term, have the conversation, allow transition time as much as engagement team needs and move forward.

Anyone else tire of the “plant mom” and “dog dad” me too conversation? It seems to be more frequent. For example, company says, “Parents, please share pictures of working from home with your kids during Covid” for a diversity and inclusion project. Undoubtedly someone responds, “what about my plant babies? 🤣”. I don’t want sympathy but I find it childish. Just give us the courtesy of understanding that plants and pets are not the same. Stop “me too’ing”

Align to non-M&A offering but do a lot of work in the space (DD, integrations). B4 recruiter reached out and wants me to provide resume for review with hiring partner in M&A space. Does it work if I provide a bio with summary of M&A projects (client names removed) instead of a traditional resume? Also plan to list education and past experience but primary focus on recent M&A work

How is everyone organizing Jira? A project for each product or offering within a product or just a single backlog. The startup I work at have one backlog set up for the product but I find things get lost. The engineering team then have their own Jira projects where items from the product backlog get moved into it, refined, broken down into smaller tickets, and then scheduled into sprints. I can’t help but think this is hard to manage.

A male colleague of mine, who just joined the team this week, has made inappropriate advancements towards me during a team event, touching my leg while talking to me and saying how pretty I am. Worst thing is he’s joining my project too… It’s a no brainer that this is unacceptable, but it’s the first time this happened to me in a work setting and I’m unsure how to handle it. What steps should I take first? Report to HR immediately or speak to my team’s partner first? Any advice is appreciated

In a world of remote consulting work…. How long can the US maintain its high premium over European and, esp. developing market consulting? Both price tag to clients and significantly higher salaries for the people. I imagine may move faster at Big 4, etc. than MBB, but within MBB the huge cost and salary differentials feel… increasingly hard to maintain (even though I think the differential has actually gotten bigger, not smaller in the last two years). Thoughts?
