And your problem being? Not enough white people?
Dealing with a tech product and don’t expect to have Indians? Cmon!
I agree with OP there can definitely be a negative impact with lack of diversity. It's so annoying when people define diversity as just non-white majority or non-male majority. I'm not Caucasian or American btw.
Lack of diversity is anytime there's an overwhelming majority of any one group/background/ethnicity/religion represented in any team. It causes people who are not part of that majority to feel like outsiders whether it's cultural or language references or the group's general dynamic.
Not enough diversity. Don’t care about white people specifically. People group into internal clans and that affects team dynamics.
Surprising ive never seen anyone complain of the lack of diversity when its an all white team but only because its an immigrant group. Does this affect the quality of work or your impact on the client?
As I said people group into clans and spend their time gossiping about each other not to mention politics of getting promotions and so on since the decision makers are also of the same ethnicity (which may cause biased decisions).
I’m an immigrant too by the way. It’s not about me not liking any particular ethnicity (I’ve worked with, managed and reported to people with all kinds of ethnicity background including Indian). Compared to Europe, US is so different in that sense. Also applies to male/female ratio.
Op i am an indian woman and can see what you mean. Even j am regularly excluded from a lot of groups , gossip etc. id say, focus on the top dog. As long as tge SM/PPD sees value and knows what you deliver, doesnt matter what ethnicity, merit will always be rewarded
Yeah but you know 1.3 billion people are Indian around 1.5 billion people are Chinese. So please don’t expect 1 white person + 1 Indian + 1 Chinese.
If you truly are diverse, than expect the people in same ratio. And of you still don’t, as a colored person I’m going to call you racist. And just live happily with it.
You all realize that diversity isn’t just about Nationality right? You say Indian firm like this is a bad thing.
Exactly SC1! Till it was white man at top no one said oh my god, we have no Indian people, or we have no colored people. All of a sudden the world is going global, and everyone has a problem. As if we don’t have to listen bull on effing football 🏈 everyday to fit in this world.
Hate football, cause it makes me drink so much. Like it’s so easy to follow drunk for hours, I consume whole day of calories in beer during super bowl.
IBM's is like that as well
OP what is the negative impact to team dynamics that you’re experiencing or observing? Maybe if you’re more specific about the problem we can make suggestions.
OP this can happen in nationally diverse teams. Easiest way to deal with it is try to keep people as task-oriented as possible. But if you feel like you’re getting frozen out of promotions for not being Indian perhaps escalate or try harder to build those relationships (judge which is better for you). Also, lack of diversity isn’t the issue. If it was a 100% Indian team there may no be the issue, right? Or there might be because cliques are a universal issue. It seems the complaint is diversity, not lack of it.
Consultant 2 Don’t have anything against that as I said above! I only think it ideally should be people of different backgrounds not just one.
On that note though, I remember talking to half Indian half European girl who grew up in USA with Indian name. She was complaining about her current job (she is a software engineer) where she felt like her coworkers (all Indians) were not treating her as equal (in her own words). I was a bit surprised since she is herself half Indian. Sure that’s not specific to Indians. It probably happens when the majority of a team consists of one ethnicity and then there are a few ‘aliens’.
Right so op it’s fine for white people to make groups but not Indians? So amazing and inclusive of you. Try being in other people’s shoes, Indians have faced this since eternity. Being outcast isn’t a joke but why don’t you try to learn about them? Indians aren’t bad people. So take off your racism and throw it in the bin.
Senior Consultant 1 where is diversity in a team consisting of male representatives of only one nationality?
OP maybe I misunderstood your earlier comment that they don’t care about white people. How is this evident if there are no white people on the team? I assumed you were talking about white peoples and Indians. Also, for the record, India is a diverse country with over 20 languages and multiple religions represented across different regions.
PwC 1 Everyone is free to do whatever they like (unless it hurts other people or contradicts corporate culture and policies), no doubt about that. Everyone must be treated equally. I would have said exactly the same thing if there was a 100% white protestant team.
Accenture 1 Exactly what I meant
