I think you’ll be fine, you might even be able to progress faster because of your previous experience. I would just be upfront with them. I know you hired me for x and I have previous experience at a higher position. Can we create a plan for promotion or raise if you see that I am excelling at my job within x timeframe. Don’t sell yourself short.
Titles are stupid, so who cares on that front, but don’t take less money. Kids are fucking expensive. You’ve worked hard to advance your career. You should be paid a salary commiserate with experience.
Doubt it - career suicide is hard to achieve IMO. How do you justify accepting this role? Is it a better company? More high profile clients? Or were you done with EP life? As long as you know the reason, you'll be fine.
If you feel like you're settling and would be going in unhappy, I would keep looking...unless you have for a while and genuinely feel like it's your only option.
Depends on how in need you are - I wouldn’t take a step back if I didn’t have to. Can you freelance at EP level or do you have to go full time as soon as possible for benefits/other reasons? If there’s no amazing client or creative, you’re not in dire straits financially, and it’s not an offer you’re happy with, I’d keep looking.
Also I wouldn’t see the 18 months on production as a reason to level down. If anything it’s more experience that should command a better offer
Agree with Producer 1. 18 months ia not extended leave. I know quite a few women who left for a couple of years and came back to at least equal titles and more importantly, pay. Don't doubt your worth or settle for less.
Great questions. I was on the prod. Co side most recently, so I’m breaking back into agency-side after being out for 18months. It’s how I justify stepping down, but it isn’t a great agency or client. Not sure if I should keep looking or just bite the bullet
depends on the scale of org you are going to. if it is significantly larger than your old place it’s fine.
I went from a VP title at a small specialized agency to a senior title at a large full service agency. Best decision of my career. The title doesn't dictate the talent. Be humble, kick ass and get that money.
