Stop being cheap.
My SO did the one from the dentist and he said that you can just by a thinner mouthguard at a sports store and mold it to your teeth that way. He wouldn’t waste the $$ again via the dentist.
Price difference doesn't sound enough to look at that eecondary option to me.
Over the counter ones lasted a few months. The hard plastic dentist one last years. I would recommend the dentist one over the cheap cvs
You can get a set of 3 for ~$17.
Try these first to see if they work. (I has do cut the inner part off mine bc it was causing me to gag)

My wife had this issue. My sister is a dental hygienist and said that the thicker ones or non customized ones can cause jaw or alignment problems in the long run. Go with dentist option.
Yea I’d go with the dentist OP. Night guards are an investment, I’ve had mine for two years and it’s holding up well
Ok still worth it, if you fuck up your jaw/teeth/gums its going to cost more than that to fix it
Isn’t it caused by stress? How many consultants do you know who aren’t stressed hah
I have a set of night guards both custom made and retail. The ones from the doctor come in hard plastic for either your upper or lower teeth. The dentist can shave down edges or sides if they are uncomfortable. You really don’t have as much customization with the retail version.
1. See if your dental insurance will cover night guards. Mine did as it’s preventative.
2. You can go to CVS to try the plastic tray night guards. They aren’t cheap but not $150 either. I use one when I travel because I don’t want to lose my $$ nightguard
So I def want a custom fitted one bc I don’t want to mess up teeth alignment. I was looking at https://www.proteethguard.com or something similar, where they send you a mold to do impressions at home & then they create a custom nightguard off of that...it seems exactly like what the dentist does, but I don’t know anyone who has one so just wanted to see if anyone has done this before
@SA1 - your teeth move though and you need to replace them yearly if you are a major grinder. Over broken sever made by my dentist. YMMV
I have been wearing them for years. I have a hard/soft combo from the dentist and it normally lasts up to 2 years. The mouthguard and OTC ones where you have to shape/mold have never worked that well. Accenture dental covers the night guard so I don't mind spending the extra money.
I think my last one cost me approx $120 after insurance.
I had a friend who grinded his teeth a lot and was too cheap to get a proper night guard from a dentist, so he got one of those sports ones. He would grind though those within weeks. Even if you don't grind your teeth that much, it goes to show that they're not built for grinding teeth. Most instance plans should cover a fair amount for night guards too
PwC dental has great coverage for this, your coverage probably does too
Go dentist but find a different dentist. Mine was custom molded by my dentist and I paid $200 out of pocket
My dentist has also prescribed whitening trays and indicated I can use those on rotation with nightguard. My experience is that my grinding is tied to stress. When I can/do reduce that (via exercise, work stuff that calms down, etc) my grinding stops. Not sure if same for you.
Don’t you have dental insurance?
My insurance doesn’t cover nightguards u fortunately, so it’s $500 out of pocket :/
OP I had mine custom done at the dentist...even after the custom mold and guard was produced, he spent about 30 minutes measuring my bite with it in and doing small adjustments (slightly filing down areas of the guard) - this was done to make sure that the guard didn’t cause any alignment issues while grinding- go to a dentist, you only get one set of natural teeth
