Discuss with your spouse about finances. It works differently for each couple. Align on how you want to deal with your expenses, loans etc and then execute. Many desi folks don't talk openly about finances, unfortunately.

You talk to husband first then FB … if he doesn’t agree or give you issues then you come here to cry about it and ask for suggestions

Ironic that M2 asks OP to be mature while displaying immaturity.
Similar situation. In our case we maintained our individual accounts (bank and investment) but opened a new joint one into which we contributed equally to cover rent and living expenses. We use our personal accounts to 1) support family back home 2) pay down a mortgage for a house back in India (I bought it years before we married)
Great idea - thanks!

This sounds exactly like my wife and my situation. It had a few discussions on this and ended up paying her dad and my student loan with combined finances. Make sure you align on it early enough to get it out of the way

Budget budget..
here’s a calc that my ex and I used (thereby walking away from each other financially secure) : Expense * 12/ (24 or 26 paychecks) meaning each paycheck you need to set aside that amount to pay all your expenses + loans.. it’ll give you both an idea of by when you can pay off both loans as well.
After those loans are paid off, have your bank auto withdraw from your checking to savings. Treat it like money you never had. Invest that money.
Create for yourselves a discretionary spending acct or plan.
Very helpful, thank you!!
you earn enough to pay back your father entirely. however you have greater issues to deal with if it comes down to that
