You didn’t gain it fast and you can’t lose it fast. As you mentioned, you just need to adopt lifestyle changes that support healthy consumption and healthy physical activity. Unless you want to do something drastic like surgery to assist, that’s really the only sustainable perspective there is. It can’t be a “force” thing. It needs to be decisions driven by sound reasoning, like, “I need to eat this, and not that, because while that tastes good, this is good for my body and the longevity of my health”, or, “I need to to eat in moderation because while I could consume more, my body doesn’t *need* more, and it will learn to run off less”. It’s not about wants, it’s about needs. So start by retraining your mind. While I may sound like a downer, I’m just trying to be realistic. I do hope you are able to achieve the weight you desire… using safe methods first and foremost. My personal input is to start by tracking calories. First, you’ll be shocked at how many calories you can consume without realizing it. Second, at the end of the day you will only lose weight if you are in a calorie deficit, just as you gained weight in a calorie surplus. And interestingly enough, tracking calories “forces” you to strategically think about your food consumption, which ultimately means end up having to choose healthier foods at lower calories because (1) you can consume more of those in quantity, and (2) the nutrients in them will fuel you for longer and you will be less hungry throughout the day. 🍀 Also, when you want a sweet treat, eat oranges (my go to), various berries, or other sweet fruit, depending on preference. Eat as many of these as it takes for you to stop wanting anything else sweet. This will train your body to grow more accustomed to natural sugar, and you will desire artificial sugar less and less the more and more you eat fruit. 🍊🍓🫐

Seconding what SA2 said - eating too little can really screw you up. Use TDEE, look up your basal metabolic rate and make sure you always eat at least 100-200 cals more than that. This is why you can't lose weight fast - going super low calorie can affect your metabolism and prevent you from losing weight at all. I lost my pandemic weight eating 1750 a day.

you're not alone! totally feel you! i gained weight back in 2016 when i hit some personal stress and suddenly ballooned up! finally made a few corrections in 2018, lost a bit... but kinda hit a wall... then 2020 - gained it all back. feeling terrible about it, totally self conscious. TOTALLY RELATE on having trouble sticking to anything. i have what i think to be a great ethic for how to eat and typically am someone who makes everything from scratch, avoids a lot of sugar, bad carbs etc and always had a nice baseline routine of staying active. but the last couple years, its just ALL off kilter and it feels like it's been going on WAYYYY too long now. feel you on just having trouble sticking to all the things you of course know would be helpful! i've been someone in the past with great habits, and i'm like - why can't i kinda "remember" what those things were i used to do? and do them! but it's all just mental... maybe try focusing instead of the weight or eating, just on making your days fulfilling, making sure you're loving yourself (key key key!), get rest, meditate, walk in nature, etc etc - rebalancing yourself holistically is one thing that will have a massive affect on the rest of it and help it fall into line without so much focus or energy put toward the weight issue. the more you can rebalance mentally, emotionally, and even physically as in being active, sleeping well, etc the more you will crave to nourish in a healthy way ... i know that's not a magic pill but none of the "pills" will be effective if that internal balance isn't restored. best of luck to you! i'll be working on the same thing "side by side" with ya!

Intermittent fasting had been a game changer for me. I’m 42 and have given birth to 4 kids. I wouldn’t say I’m in the best shape of my life but close to it. After my last son was born 7 years ago my normal weight became 155lbs (I’m only 5’4” so at least 10 lbs overweight). I couldn’t lose weight and that became my new normal. During covid I shot as high as 165lbs and had enough. I started intermittent fasting in April and have lost 30lbs. My goal was to get under 140lbs but I got as low as 132 lbs and have now maintained 134 lbs. I don’t count calories but I try to follow a low carb diet (lots of protein, veggies, and fruit) and allow myself a cheat day once per week. In general I eat between 9am-7pm (I read fasting for 14 hrs is better for women than 16 hrs for men). I’m flexible with it and sometimes my last meal is at 6pm, sometimes it’s 8pm, etc. I just make sure I don’t eat again for 14 hrs. My confidence is through the roof and I love trying on and buying new clothes. I also do cardio 3x per week and weight training 3x per week. I aim for 7k steps per day on non cardio days and 12k steps per day on cardio days. Typically my cardio is running outside but sometimes I don’t feel like it and I just walk. My exercise regimen has been the same for years so I credit intermittent fasting with the weight loss. Exercise keeps me toned.

I have 4 kids so get a fair amount getting them off to school and my kids are in sports so I run around taking them. Some days that gets me to 7k and if it doesn’t then yes I’ll go for a walk.

Lots of good suggestions -I’ll add using hot tea to end a meal instead of dessert. Lots of good varieties but I’ve found vanilla almond or something with cinnamon help with the need to end meals with dessert.

Some of my favorites that already come in a tea bag (rather than loose tea): 1. Bigelow “Mint Medley” (caffeine free) 2. Bigelow “Perfect Peach” (caffeine free) 3. Celestial Seasonings “True Blueberry” (caffeine free) 4. Bigelow “Lemon Lift” (caffeinated or decaf). Note decaf tea and coffee still has a very small amount of caffeine, so avoid it late in the day if you’re very sensitive to caffeine. 5. I also love peppermint tea (caffeine free), especially at night. I usually drink loose tea, but many brands offer peppermint in tea bags. 6. I also drink a lot of Scottish Breakfast Tea in the morning/early afternoon. It is regular caffeinated black tea, so best to avoid later in the day. Scottish breakfast tea is similar to English Breakfast tea, which is essentially your basic black tea, with a slightly bolder flavor, almost malty. I love it as my go-to caffeinated drink. I think Twinings (a British brand) offers it loose and bagged. Note: if you want to try loose tea, grocery stores usually sell small packs of tea filters that you can put a tsp of the loose tea in, like what a lot of cafes do. They’re usually pretty inexpensive. You can also get them on Amazon. Let me know if you like any of the above!

Don’t do this! Honestly it will ruin your metabolism. I gained a lot of weight on prednisone. It took 6 months to lose it. If you starve yourself your body will make you that much hungrier and you will gain it back 🥺. For me I am a breakfast person so if I skip it will be miserable. If you aren’t it’s a great meal to intermittent fast with some coffee. I try to snack through breakfast or dinner some days to reduce calories. For breakfast: egg or two for breakfast with 1 piece of bacon or sliced avocado, avocado toast, and a couple days just a yogurt to cut down the calories. Meal prep on Sunday’s. The key is to make good food you want to eat. So I would barbecue some chicken or cook chicken thighs with brown sugar and butter sauce but then use them throughout the week, on s salad, their own with some grilled veggies, with avocado on a sandwich , in a quesadilla. Protein and fats keep you full so a semi keto diet was easiest for me (nuts, cheese, avacado, oil. I love the side salads that use three out of four (fruit avocado toasted nuts cheese). Get an air fryer and roast all veggies…all you need is oil oil and a good cajun seasoning like slap your mama. Also love zucchini noodles and spaghetti squash for days I want pasta and to be cozy and in love lol. The key is to focus on a healthier lifestyle vs diet. highly would recommend starting walking 3 miles a day just to get a break from work and some sort of workout subscription you can do from home with gym classes such as peloton has some hard 20 minute weight workouts. After doing that for a few months I was able to start running again. Best of luck babes you got this!! Oh and drink water allllll the time!! I love both hot and unsweet tea. ❤️❤️

Like others have said, fast weight loss is the enemy of sustainable, long term weight loss. Calculate you daily TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) using a website like this one: https://tdeecalculator.net/, then subtract 10-20% and aim for that many calories per day. Track in My Fitness Pal or a similar app. Be patient. I agree with PWC3 that meal prep makes a big difference for me, so I’m not scrounging for meals or tempted to get takeout during the week. You can do IF/keto/whatever if you want to. They’re not magic, but some people find that they help with hunger while eating fewer calories. Also, I strongly recommend strength training. Muscle is denser than fat, so you’ll look smaller at a similar weight. It’s also more metabolically active; people with more muscle have higher metabolisms. On that note, try not to focus exclusively on the scale. Sometimes the scale won’t change as quickly as other things, like measurements or how clothing fits, do.

Don't lose it fast. I found keto works for me, but you should look for something you can stick with and is sustainable.

like

Keto works for me too especially since I feel like I’m not missing out on anything - it takes more time if you want to make comfort food (i.e pizza, dessert etc) and because I’m paleo I mostly cook my own stuff, but keto has been a game changer and helped me lose 20 lbs without feeling like I cannot satisfy my cravings

I lost over 20 lbs doing intermittent fasting. It works and you don’t have to give up everything you love! Start with 4-6 hours and then work your way up to 12-14 hours…. Portion control throughout your fast is also key. I did not work out but I would walk around my neighborhood occasionally. It’s alllll about the food… even personal trainers will tell you that weight loss is at least 80% diet. Focus on your portions, eliminate sugars and bad carbs, and fast daily (start with four hours in the morning and night ..wake up at 6, only drink water until 10am and then cut off your meals by 8pm if you’re in bed by midnight… you can of course adjust the hours to work for your body type but this works and the weight stays off!)

like

I would say about 6-8 weeks. The first week i dropped 5 lbs (literally no sugary snacks, a few fast paced walks through my neighborhood, lots of water, small portions) and then averaged about 2-3 for each consecutive week. Once you get to your goal weight, keep up the small portions… always have water only for the first and last 3 hours of your day and if you want to speed up results, replace one meal per day with a liquid meal (smoothie, green juice, soup, etc.) and you will for sure be successful in maintaining that weight. I hope this helps!

like

Don’t deprive yourself of too many things. Eat until you’re satisfied and not until you’re full. Hope this helps.

Try setting smaller goals. Not sure how many total pounds you want to lose, but start with a 5 lb goal instead of a 20 lb goal. During the weeks where you just can’t commit to significant weight loss, just commit to maintaining your current weight. Then set a goal to lose another 5 lbs, so you’re looking at a 2-4 week goal rather than a 6 month goal. Totally agree with others re the importance of a sustainable lifestyle change, but maybe you can kick start it with smaller more manageable goals.

like

Don’t focus on losing it fast. I’m in the same boat with you. I had a baby last year. I was already overweight. I have 80lbs to lose. What I wish I knew years ago is to make deliberate lasting lifestyle changes and that killing myself in high intensity workouts all the time was creating more stress in my body. Start with simple things like walking or running a mile or 20 mins a day (or some activity you enjoy), drink plenty of water and moderate what you eat using the 80/20 rule. Eat what you should 80% of the time. I love my body. It created 2 lives. You’re probably awesome and beautiful. Take your time. Take time to build a healthy, doable lifestyle and the weight will come off.

You don’t want it bad enough. I.e it’s not important to you otherwise you would have lost the weight by now. If someone told you that if you don’t lose weight in the next 6 months you will lose one of your legs and have it amputated, you would “force “ yourself to stick to it and your would lose the weight “fast”. FIND YOUR WHY…. That’s the answer

Well I don’t think what you’re saying is correct. But appreciate your insight
