Desperately need to find a therapist, but have barely used any health care in the city (I’m from another country). Apparently my insurance is quite good but I have no clue where to start. Any recommendations or tips for how to find someone?

Use Psychology Today to search for an in network provider or someone who will process your out of network benefits for you. Use the filter function based on your criteria. Then review their profiles and call or email the ones you want. Therapists are very busy nowadays so you may have to contact several of them, have an initial chat to see if they are a good fit. Some of them are assholes or ignorant or just have the wrong personality or skills.

Use your insurance website to find in network therapists and then psychology today or zocdoc to contact them or book appointments! It seems like after the last year a lot of therapists are busy so expect to possibly get a mid day appointment or something during work hours. I started going well before the pandemic and it was hard to find someone with open appointments before or after work, had to go with a lunch time one but it worked out!

Zocdoc, fill out your insurance on the app and they will show you who is in network for you.

A lot of good ones will not take insurance (although mine will cover 50% after I meet my deductible)…I pay up the nose for mine, but I really like her—found her on zocdoc. Definitely experiment and consult with a lot of people. Figure out which style is right for you. I’ve gone thru many different therapists and found that CBT just shuts me down. Psychodynamic is my preferred approach. Don’t be afraid to break up with therapists if you feel it’s not the right fit.

Could use your help. I’m reviewing a contract for a new (in-house, freelance) gig, and the following 3 things I want to counter — or at least I’m curious if these are common: 1) Non-compete for 2 years for same industry 2) Must have liability insurance for up to 2 million while there (didn’t know this existed honestly) 3) Must give 30 day notice if leaving (I’m fine with 2 weeks…but 30 days?!) …Any advice on if these are standard and how to best negotiate them?

Trying to figure out how to manage health issues and work balance. I just recently found out I might have herpes (waiting for the test results to come back) and I have been very and feeling like my life is over especially because it came from being cheated on and struggling with prioritizing my bandwidth and not knowing how to communicate it with my team. Due to stigmas around something as common as herpes I cannot comfortably share that with my team.

Today I was officially diagnosed with adult adhd. I can’t begin to explain how relieved I am. It turns out things that I’ve considered personality defects are actually symptoms of this disorder. Talk to your doctor and do research. You never know what’s going on inside your brain.

I am looking to switch careers. I have been in my current career for nearly 20 years. I need a change. I have masters degree in instructional technology, health care administration, and English. I am working on trying to work my current skills into today's job market. That is more difficult than I anticipated. I guess I'm wondering if there really is anything out there to switch to? I feel lucky to have a job, but it is getting very depressing and difficult to get up for work.
