Firstly, think you should consult a doctor as I am not licensed to give you professional advice (just want to put this out before I say anything)
For me, I take vitamin c, NAC around 8 to allow my body to eliminate Stimulant faster and melatonin about 30 mins before my bedtime.
OP, maybe the dose was too high. Work with a shrink to help you determine what the optimal dose is. Also vyvanse only comes in one flavor - extended release. Something like adderall or ritalin, while stimulants, at least have instant release versions that I find give you more control. At least if the dose is too high it won’t last all day and if too low you can take a bit more next time until you find the best dose because the pills can be split.
I second BCG1's sentiments. I do take something like that (non-stimulant) with my meds though. Sleep is critical. If you are able try to go to bed at the same time every night and get at least 8 hours in. All the meds or over the counter options in the world won't make up for bad sleep hygiene. I learned that the hard way.
Have tried tons of “brain enhancing” supplement ranging from alpha brain to various nootropics in replace Adderall for the past 2 years. To be honest, Most of them have minimal effect. During the off medication period was one of my worst career move ever- missing deadlines, forgetful, not focusing...... If your adhd is severe, my advice is take your prescribed medicine and take tons of antioxidants to counter the neurotoxicity from stimulant.
just take the real meds. they actually work. not perfectly, but it’s better than sucking at your job.
Also OP, would read up on ADHD and how it affects your life, esp given your late diagnosis. Highly recommend books by Ned Hallowell and Sari Solden.
Sorry, OP. It’s very unlikely it will. By ‘real’ meds I assume you are referring to stimulates Strattera is a non-stimulant that could provide better (not great) results. Beyond that exercise (with a clear routine) tends to help. So does regular sleep schedule. (I know, hard to get at BCG)
OP over time your sensitivity level to stimulates won’t be the same as it was on day 1. You got to BCG before taking meds so I’m guessing it’s not severe, maybe trying a non-stimulate is not a bad idea but don’t expect to feel perfect at day 1. This group can provide guidance but your doctor is key
Also Vyvanse/adderall are one family of drugs and Ritalin/focalin are another family. Some people do better on one than on the other.
I tried both Vyvanse and Adderall for 2 weeks; felt jittery, sweaty, had dry mouth, and horrible headaches when the dose wore off. Asked to switch to focalin and from day 1, none of those symptoms. Expectation wise, it will probably take a few weeks to figure out the right meds and dose.
Depending on your level. As for associate, Adderall is great for nailing through the boring stuff. However, it made me super socially awkward and anti social. So, not something I would take when making a presentation
Honestly, this is why I’ve never tried vyvanse. I was interested, but to me the risk of it not working as well as my adderall was too high given what I had going on with work. Your shrink will tell you to stay on the dose they prescribe for a couple weeks to make a good faith effort at it, especially if it’s vyvanse. But you know your body, and you’re the best one to determine what the appropriate dose is based on your response to the drug. Dose modification on an extended release like vyvanse is much harder because you’re most likely only going to get one strength prescribed at a time. So for reasons of our jobs and our shit healthcare/insurance system (insurers might balk at paying for multiple strengths of months long vyvanse supplies), I just stayed the course with my Adderall instant release and maybe I’ll give vyvanse another shot when things calm down. If you’re super jittery on something, maybe you just had too much. Sometimes I drink too much coffee and will be jittery, Doesn’t mean I’ll never drink coffee again. Just means I shouldn’t drink as much at once.
I took vyanese one day. 30mg. Was sweating so much. Lost appetite entirely (I’m already under weight) and couldn’t sleep till 2am when I drank NyQuil.
Any suggestions?
Thanks all, really appreciate the support.
How did you all experiment with medications while on a case? The risk there scares me.
