What worked for me- this might sound counterintuitive- but only take it 3x a week. If you take it daily, there’s no internal drive to “maximize” the benefits of the medication. I take it Tue-Thurs. I go all in those days. Chill out and procrastinate Monday & Friday.
Wow you made it to MD with adhd. You are my new hero
What you're doing is good. I'd also look into whether you may be deficient in nutrients. Personally, I had to introduce magnesium supplements with vitamin B6 to feel more in control of my faculties and maintain concentration. Might be worth looking into.
Thanks, I take Mg on weekends, helps me sleep better. Sometimes I wake up and feel more relaxed. Since I cannot sleep in on weekdays I have stuck to it on weekends.
Even with meds, it’s difficult to prioritize and fight procrastination. You can eat as much protein as your heart desires but you’ll still have a chemical imbalance in your brain. I’d suggest trying a medication other than Vyvanse… something in the Ritalin family (Concerta, Focalin) may help you better handle your symptoms.
They’re just different. Coke and Pepsi are both great colas, but most people will prefer one over the other. It’s more dependent on your brain chemistry than anything else.
I had to do medication and therapy for awhile to try to help get me on track and get me going with techniques, strategies, coping skills, etc. Therapy helped me significantly.
I find that getting up early and working out in the AM before i get fully going for the day really helps me stay focused better throughout the day. It could be better sleep, endorphins from the workout or both combined. It’s tough at first to get into the habit but honestly has been really helpful.
I've been listening to Andrew Huberman and learning more about ADHD being an issue with dopamine deficiency. I'm trying to manage ADHD by eating more protein (less carbs), making lists and being aware of my time.
Any other tips on folks who managed this without medication? I still struggle with procrastination & prioritization.
Exercise has been crucial for me to burn off that excess energy and focus. I also found green tea helpful - but don't overdo it with the caffeine. Diet is definitely an underlooked component, as is getting adequate sleep. Sometimes I think my ADHD is horrible and really I am just sleep-deprived.
Eating right can help but nothing really beats getting medication for it. If you weren't really feeling good about Vyvanse, have you at least told your doctor about it? They might help you find the right medication that would really suit your needs.
It didn’t work for me even on an incredibly high dose
