Did anyone change jobs while pregnant or trying to get pregnant? I want to make a change, but am anxious about going on leave with kid 2 and returning to a place where my reputation isn’t established

I moved to industry while trying to get pregnant, to help with lifestyle changes and be more present to actually try. While not pregnant yet 😟 it's the best decision I have made.

I plan to jump ship after maternity leave. Better for me to do it that way because I likely wouldn’t get as much paid leave (if any) at a new company without working there for a year. I’m also super into not-giving-a-shit before going on leave. If I was somewhere new I’d feel a lot more pressure to prove myself. I don’t need that in my life right before having baby #2. So as much as my current firm is killing my soul, it’s worth it for me to stay. I also plan to use the end of my leave to interview and hopefully find a new job.

M1 do you have an offer before you go on mat leave or are you applying while on leave?

I waited until immediately after maternity leave to start looking.

My wife is pregnant. Do the general courtesies of telling your manager/work beginning of 3rd trimester still apply during covid/work from home? Her industry has been hit hard and her job has been doing furloughs and layoffs. We can get pretty far without telling due to WFH but don’t want to put her boss in a bad position either.

Long story short - my nanny has many conservative values - mom shaming breastfeeding in public, gender specific roles, considering boys better than girls etc. it never bothered me before and I have learned to co exist with her however now my toddler is speaking and understanding more I am worried about him being influenced by her. Further she also has comments against my SO being too involved parent & calling out son as cutie, hugging toddler etc as he is a boy. Contd..

Ladies, I know Deloitte has 16 week parental leave. What’s the policy for your company ( BCG, Bain, McKinsey, PWC, Etc)? Thanks.

Juggling a child and staying focused at work is becoming more difficult. Both men and women, how do you deal with this? Lack of sleep and time is starting to exhaust me and work is never done.

I’ve been asked to weigh in on how to improve my firms parental leave policy. It’s currently 8 weeks paid for birth parent with an extra week for each year at the firm (up to 12 weeks total) and 2 weeks paid for non-birth parent. I’m in a major city, firm is a boutique that has been around a very long time. What would you suggest? Any studies or research you’ve seen recently on trends in parental leave policies also helpful. I’d like to have some sort of data to back up what I recommend. TIA!

I really don’t think there’s a chance that the SCOTUS overturns Roe. I would hope this affirming decision further slams the door on states trying to legislate what happens in a doctor’s office between a pregnant woman and her doctor. There’s always a chance this swings the other way, but this SCOTUS so far has a non partisan approach, regardless of what the media has portrayed. The panic seems unwarranted.

Any advice for a newly pregnant consultant (6weeks in)? Do people usually go for appointments and scans without telling anyone at work till the required time to give notice? I am not from the US and taxes overwhelm me; the first few years I did them with TurboTax and it was fine but then I entered a domestic partnership and had a baby. I also bought a house (that I don’t live in), so I went to H&R Block to give it a try assuming they could advise me on optimizing my return, it seemed that they are completely transactional as the person is just typing numbers in a form. Any recommendations on how to navigate personal taxes with an actual advisor?

I feel sad for my baby because she has no family nearby to love on her. Both sets of extended families live abroad and haven’t met her yet because of the pandemic. Any firms with good parental leave policies? Or are most through short-term disability or only partial pay?

I found out today that my employer doesn’t offer any paid parental leave (maternity or paternity). This isn’t a major issue now, but my wife and I are planning on trying in a year or so from now. How many other employers don’t offer any paid leave at all? Coming from public accounting this seemed outrageous to me, but curious to see what other companies are like.

I’m the one whose ex won’t pay for college - and I have an update. My ex texted me today that he and his wife are buying our son a car (!!) for Christmas. On the one hand, it’s one less expense for me. On the other hand, my ex won’t pay for college and he owes me at least $10K for previous medical expenses, but he can find money for a car - which is a “fun” expense that will get him brownie points with our son. Whatever - my son benefits, but talk about a “Disneyland Dad.” Ugh.
