Did anyone change to low deductible health insurance right before getting pregnant? My husband just changed jobs and is going on my insurance. We think we might be pregnant but it’s too early to tell. Wondering if a low deductible plan is a smart idea. I have high deductible on my own right now. 🐣

I was running numbers and I think if you’re due at the beginning of the plan year it makes more sense to be HD and stay HD, but if you’re due at end of plan year you could use baby birth as a qualifying event and switch to low, then switch back to high in the new year.

As a caveat this is based off what I’ve read here and the plans I haven’t done it yet

I had a high deductible plan for my pregnancy and used the savings to put into my HSA. I hit my out of pocket max, but it still worked out cheaper than having the low deductible plan, even with extra drs appointments for hypertension. My baby was born in December though, so might depend on timing

I switched to low deductible for both of my pregnancies. I ended up being high risk so was seeing doctors and specialists twice a week. Also one baby needed the nicu and other pt weekly (both are totally healthy now). I know we were paying a lot more per paycheck but it was nice that our delivery bill was $250 including nicu and that pt was just a reasonable copay. It made all the doctor appts less stressful that I wasn’t just burning money

Not at PWC, but I have had kids under both low and high deductible plans at Deloitte. At least the way the Deloitte plans are priced, I wound up better under the high deductible plan. I had to pay a good bit more (i.e., I hit my out of pocket maximum during the year I had my child), but it was less than the premiums for the high deductible plan would’ve been. If you are pricing out which winds up better, just FYI—the baby’s hospital bill is under your name so it wasn’t like my baby had a separate deductible for his newborn hospital time (he was healthy and had zero issues). All the other newborn stuff is considered preventative and was covered 100%. Obviously, that would he different if your little one has to stay in hospital longer, has health issues, etc but that is how it worked for us. Also, I owed a good bit to the hospital ($2500 I believe). Because we paid upfront, the hospital gave us a 20% discount...so it counted $2500 toward my oop but I only paid $2000.

Is there anyone that is teaching from home and your students have returned to school? How did you get permission to do that and how does that work with kids in the classroom? I am guessing there has to be an adult in the room while the students are in there but is there another teacher during their planning or do you have to get a sub? Our reentry has been delayed and I am working with HR to try and stay home while students aren’t there but it looks like I’m going to have to take some Parental Leave once students do return because there is not a plan otherwise.

Is it a bad look as a senior associate (on the path to manager within a year) to be driving an expensive car like a C7 or C8 corvette that is $70k+? I don’t think it is and here’s my rationale. I’m making over 6 figures, maxing out my 401k and IRA accounts with extra $ going to a brokerage account, I have a 3BR 1300 sq foot home with finished basement and garage for $170k. My two loans are only $240k combined. Heck most people spend more on a house alone. Work remote so vette isn’t daily driver.

I’m pregnant with my first. Super early- 5 weeks. Lots of time for things to go wrong. I’m also a step mom to two toddlers (we had them for a few weeks and now they’re at their moms until after Xmas) , and full time job. I’m EXHAUSTED. I have never known tired like this. Any tips and tricks on how to stay awake and focus at work? I’ve limited my caffeine intake (down to 1/2 cup a day or decaf only) and literally feel like I am a narcoleptic goat.

My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.

I’m having a hard time staying motivated lately. Really apathetic about everything. Feels like I’m falling into a bad depressive slump. I’m getting more and more behind on work because I just can’t sustain focus for longer than a couple hours at a time. There’s no one to shift my workload to, and as much as the legal industry talks about lawyer mental health, it’s still a taboo topic. I know it’s the pandemic causing this downswing, but I don’t know how to shake myself out of this rut.
