Did anyone else who got an offer feel sad and guilty about leaving? Wondering if it's because it's the first time I'm quitting or if it'll always be hard

I hated KPMG as a firm and the work I was doing but liked my team. I was sad when I left them, but it was so worth it. Got a huge salary increase and realized that it’s not normal to have work induced panic attacks and that my new company doesn’t cause them.

Don’t feel guilty. Our firms purposely try to cultivate a Stockholm syndrome among employees in order to keep us underpaid. Take the money and don’t look back. You can find friends/a good team at most places, but money cannot be found at the B4 unless you are a partner.

Thanks!! This was helpful

It will always be hard.... unless you absolutely hate the job, company, and people you work with.

Okay, I definitely agree with the other replies to your post then.

OP, you gotta do what’s best for you. You know you’re underpaid and if KPMG can’t offer you something for satisfying, there’s no reason to stay. Even if you love your work and team now, you should easily be able to love your new one! It’s literally a now or never opp to be changing careers in the midst of a pandemic. (I too left my firm for a product company due to pay and compensation)

Thanks A1!

It’s always hard - was in a role that was terrible for me at a company I disliked in industry for 2 years before jumping to OW. In the month before I got my OW offer, I networked my ass off and got moved to a team & role I was much more suited for at my prior company. The heads of that team really stuck their neck out for me, which made me feel even guiltier putting in my 2 weeks a week after starting, but the most important thing to remember is that:

Corporations 👏 don’t 👏 care 👏 about 👏 you 👏

A company wouldn’t hesitate to cut you if it made sense from their bottom line, so why should you feel bad about making a move that benefits you personally? Try to leave on as good of terms with the people as possible, but we’re consultants - they have a line of eager undergrads just waiting to replace you anyway.

Yeah, I definitely don't care about the company. I just feel bad for leaving my team who have always supported my growth

OP, definitely in a similar position as you. If you don’t mind me asking, what rank and what type of work would you be doing in new job?

I'm a senior and will be doing a developer role

I switched firms a lot and never felt bad about leaving

Not even the first one? Teach me your ways

Anyone else struggle with interviews? No matter how much I practice I tend to forget and still struggle when it’s time for it. My resume gets me through the door but that’s as far as I’ve been going since I graduated. It’s hard not to want to give up.

Battling imposter syndrome during job search. I’m 2.5 years out and just started applying/interviewing for a new position. I have been at the same firm since 2L (different summer positions though) doing primarily plaintiff PI/WC. I have a ton of litigation experience but I feel like I lack substantive experience/knowledge outside WC/PI. I’m interviewing at defense civil lit firms now who seem receptive but I feel wildly under qualified. Anyone else go through this? Advice?

I'm an ops project manager in a big tech company - would it be a tall ask to pivot to data science? Have 2yo experience, and a fairly strong econ/stats background from uni - thinking of using dataquest to refresh my python (reasonably competent in R/SQL). Are there any logical transitions from project management to data science? Cheers!
