I’ve heard before that you could ask them to note in your medical record that they are refusing to perform an ultrasound if they push back - generally most will just go ahead and do it instead of making the paper trail
Can you get a second opinion? I’m not a doctor obviously but it seems wild that they would refuse an ultrasound
I am planning for this. Meanwhile, thought of looking for any similar experience here. Thank you!
Sorry, no experience with that but definitely get a second opinion. Knew someone from high school who got a rough diagnosis very young so the doc should at least give you peace of mind and be thorough.
I’d find a new dr. I had no pain but a lump at 28 and my pcp ordered the ultrasound from the breast radiologist/specialist. She thought it was fine but if course did the ultrasound to be 100% and to have imaging for comparison should it change.
Yes (me and many other women!) You could have fibro cystic breasts which literally just means little non-cancerous lumps in your breast that become inflamed during hormonal changes (including increases in stress.) it’s also exacerbated by high amounts of caffeine or nicotine in your system.
Mine started at 25. As you can see it’s very common. Happy to chat if you have more questions.
Fun fact - because this is so common, my shitty OBGYN at the time totally blew off any concerns I had and I left the office is a panic. I scheduled a follow up with a new OBGYN who very calmly explained everything to me about the diagnosis. (Including that it’s pretty common.)

Thank you again!
By “hormones” they most likely mean breast cysts that can get larger during cycle. It is quite common, but definitely worth getting a second opinion- large ones can be very easily drained (guided with ultrasound). Occasionally, it can also be an infection, especially in smokers. Worth investigating further
Did they run a hormone blood panel or just diagnose via examination?
Then how do they know it’s just hormones? I would definitely find a new doctor.
