Fellow Big4 lawyer. Following.
Definitely possible. I know some that did so in tax. I also know people who went Big 4 >> small firm >> Big Law.
Yep, usually doable for corp tax especially if you have an llm in tax.
Yes, went from Big4 intl tax to big law general transactional tax a couple years ago. I’ve seen it happen pretty frequently from the Big4 specialty tax groups (M&A, Intl, WNT, etc) especially in NYC markets. Typically folks had tax LLMs or T14 backgrounds and good grades. Last year was a big year too given the hiring frenzy.

I’m in EBEC/ECEB at Big4, but don’t have the grades and not T14, nor do I have a tax LLM. 🥴
A1, unfortunately they are not hiring any more junior folks. I bet Kirkland is hiring, though. I think they hire a ton of Big4 people.

I’ve placed a bunch of big 4 into big law. Feel free to shoot me a DM or email if you want to talk. Efox@longridgepartners.com
Yes. Some practice areas are more conducive to the switch, particularly specialty consulting groups like employee benefits. I also know some Big4 tax M&A attorneys who have transitioned to BigLaw.
I went from Big4 Int’l Tax to an AM200 firm (so not technically BigLaw). I think it is possible, but you need the grades and to be able to make a good case why your Big4 experience will be applicable in your new role. Also having a connection at the firm that can get the hiring manager to actually notice your resume is always helpful.
Yes - went from Big4 SALT to AM50 M&A. I made the jump after only 2 years, so I wasn’t too specialized yet to make BigLaw tax the only option. I’ve seen a few others do it as well - there are some hurdles, but worth it in the long run.
With honors (but not top of my class), and not from T50. In private equity M&A now (general corporate, not a specialist).
