I've been to many therapists in my day. I can tell you that they're people too and you just have to find one you connect with. Everyone has different styles and of course not all will work for you. I can say though that none of them should be invalidating your feelings like that. I never had any of them say I shouldn't be feeling some way, so I don't know what this person's problem is. I hope you know though, that it's perfectly okay to feel pain for all of the things you mentioned. Those are hard things to deal with. Hope you find someone who works perfectly with you.
Thank you! It does make me really relieved. I will keep searching :)

It sounds like you’re seeing a psyCHIatrist. This is how mine talks to me too, basically a drug dealer with many degrees.
My psychologist (therapists) listens, provides feedback. Sounds like you need the latter.
I think you are right. He should be psychiatrist. I found the clinic on Yelp and they have both psychiatrist and psychologist, so I was very confused.

I’ve had 3 psychologists and only one was good. She made all the difference in the world. I 💯 advocate for therapy, but if a therapist isn’t working, it’s most likely that they aren’t a good therapist or aren’t a good match for you.
Where did you find this person? If you look online, different psychologists have ratings. Find one in your area with 5 stars and see if it’s a better fit. You might try to find one similar in age/gender/lifestyle to you if you think that might help with a connection. Go to a psychologist (therapy) not a psychiatrist (meds). Trained therapists typically will not use the word “should” with respect to how you feel because how you feel just is. It needs to be accepted and then dealt with. Saying you shouldn’t feel a certain way will not help. There is a lot going on now between Covid and everything else so it’s a nationwide mental health crisis and you do not need to feel bad for feeling bad! I hope you find someone better quickly.
Thank you A1, I feel very relieved now. I found the clinic on Yelp and they does have good rating. They have both psychologist and psychiatrist so I guess I met a psychiatrist but yea I was very confused.
Suggest listening to Dr. Laura Schlesinger. (On triumph channel Sirius radio). While I have no idea the source of your depression- and I’m so sorry about that, depression is awful- she gives some good advice about dealing with mental health challenges. She’s brusque and no-nonsense, but that’s rather refreshing in today’s post-modern world.
Really appreciate for your suggestions!
It's like dating - if you don't click, move on. The one for you is out there. I've been in therapy for 6 years and it saved my life, relationship and career.
Thank you! I am glad that therapy works. Even tho he gave me (force me) to get medicines, I probably won’t take them after hearing all the suggestions.
Did you see a psychiatrist or as psychologist? It’s usually the psychiatrist who prescribes medication.
I guess psychiatrist then. I just started to find help so still new to this area.

It’s unfortunate but one of the main reason people stop therapy is due to a lack of “compatibility” with the therapist/professional treating them- keep searching until you find the right match for you, there are many types of support available out there.
Thank you! I will keep searching:)
My guy that actually helped is technically called a "psychotherapist". Find a new guy
Thank you!
You want a LPC - licensed professional counselor - if you’re just looking for someone to talk to. They can be a psychologist or not, but you’ll probably do better with one who isn’t.
So basically I would expect psychologists are more caring and understanding. I suffer from depression recently due to my loved family member loss early in the year and found out my stepfather cheated with my mom and he secretly has another family, and also stress from PA.
I describe all the pains and my suffers during our session but it seems like he thought I was just not mature enough to handle the stress or what. He said I shouldn’t feel depressed because my family issues already happened so that’s in the past. My mom should be the one who felt pain instead of me. He also said an adult should be able to manage work stress because everyone has their stress from work. Then he kept convincing me to take medicines while I was hesitating. I prefer to do therapies if possible cause I heard medicines can be hard to quit. He then goes “therapy won’t help you because you are not like others who truly suffer from difficulties. You have a job and no real conflicts in your life”.
After talking to him I feel even more bad. I felt I “should” be able to manage it like everyone does but I failed.
Hi Oliver, thank you for your suggestions! Even tho he gave me medicines, I will not take them. I will keeping looking for more help and seek for more professional advices. :)
