A friend of mine did the dual JD/MBA program at our school and went straight in house with an investment bank.

Hung it up on my wall? I’m not working in firm management and I’m not asked to advise clients on business aspects since they’ve all got their own MBAs in house. I’d say it probably helped me understand corporate motivations a bit more but nothing than a junior couldn’t pick up in a couple years.

Yes, before law school. I was a hedge fund trader and went back into law later. Currently work in house in tech law. I use it all the time.

I have an interview for a heavy litigation position. I’m confident in my skills and area of law but was recently diagnosed with a chronic health condition that effects my voice. The treatment for the condition is every 2 months, which then renders my voice very weak and breathy for about 1-2 weeks. I will have my optimal voice for the interview but the quality of my voice is like a constant roller coaster. What if anything should I disclose to this potential employer and when?

I recently left private practice (civil litigation) and started an in-house gig that I really love. I am wondering if anyone has found themselves in a similar situation when making the move in-house. Is there anything I can do to improve the working relationship?

Salary negotiations: what do you do when you are due for a substantial raise (for example: promotion with change in title and seniority, increased qualifications, certifications, etc) and your current employer lowballs you through the floor (i.e. suggests $5k increase when the market/other employers offer a $60-85k increase)? How do you respond with grace, while sharing the accurate number for your current market rate?

Five years of experience as a litigation associate (Vault 50 firm). Good grades from a T20 law school. Good reviews. Some meaningful relationships with clients but this has been an area of weakness for me. Generally, extremely burned out & feeling disconnected from my work. Feeling lost generally re: my career. Looking to maybe go in house, I don’t know. I know nothing about in house or how to go about getting such a position. Advice appreciated!

I need a hobby. Turning 40 tomorrow. 😑 My life has been nothing but work and wine for the past 16 years. I think hitting 40 seems like a wake up call to do more than work. I just don’t have any interest in anything besides sleeping. I am very successful as an attorney but the costs have been no partner, few friends, no kids(I am thankful for that) and just nothing that makes me happy.
