I didn't start in consulting until I was in my 40s and don't regret the move. Not sure I could ever go back to industry

If you have any contacts from when you were previously in consulting, that would be a good place to start. If you are specifically seeking MBB, then join those groups and start networking with those who are there. Like others here, I’m in my mid-40’s and just stumbled into consulting. My experience, domain knowledge, and education caused my company to seek me out. I’ve been working on new business and being a project manager for a client. Fresh college grads/MBAs aren’t the only ones who have something to bring to clients. It shows well to clients when consultants come in and actually have the experience to back up the recommendations. I really enjoy what I’m doing so far. Wish I found consulting sooner in my career. I knew of it, but always assumed I needed a hard business background to get in.

Moved from industry to consulting in my late 40’s as a single mom after divorce. Something I always wanted to do and may never go back to industry, just depends on what opportunities lie ahead of me.

like

I did and enjoy it so far. I would never have wanted to commit to this lifestyle with young kids at home. The industry does lean heavily on the young side (except at leader levels). I agree that experienced people can offer advice that some of the younger ones can’t understand because it is accumulated through experience that can’t be taught.

like

🙋🏻‍♀️ but I don’t do Strategy.

Thanks..yes, specifically seeking MBB.. Somehow its been very hard connecting with mbb folks in pursuit of opportunties. Hence seeking advice on the same.

Sorry. What is MBB?

Me too!!

I did, once the kids didn’t want me around anymore.

I received a referral for a company, however, when the recruiter reached out to me, it was for a role at a higher level than the job I originally submitted for (Manager vs. Sr. Specialist).

I only have a little under 2 years of direct experience for the role and the role requires 5. Should I ask to be considered for the lower level role before moving forward?

Could you please suggest me how can I come out of this fear. I am afraid of taking lead role because of below things.

1. Taking ownership for entire team deliverables.
2. Had to attend every requirement call and as well as technical review calls. (When BA is not good, need to provide acceptance criteria points).
3. Providing and justifying resource/work estimates.
