Guys, Off the topic !
I bought a flat, but it didn't come with 4 wheeler parking, so I had to park on the street outside the apartment. However, the builder still has three closed parking spaces available. Could anyone recommend a negotiated price or a percentage off the flat rate for covered parking?
Thanks.

IBS is a disability under the ADA. I would suggest in future notifying HR of this (they usually ask if you need accommodations for interview process) and saying you have a health issue that may require you to step out to use the restroom. They don’t need to know anything else.

^Not correct. 29 CFR Part 1630. Title I of the ADA requires reasonable accommodations for applicants. Also see EEOC guidance here, https://www.eeoc.gov/laws/guidance/job-applicants-and-ada
Good for you for coming up with such a plausible excuse. Maybe partner was irritated thinking the problem was on their side. We do WebEx interviews several times a day and I’d say 5-7% result in technical interruptions. Seriously don’t feel bad and don’t worry about it.

Lol I giggled

If they pass on you because of this, you don’t want to work there anyway. You should be fine, hope
you feel better.
SA1,OP clarified the partner was visibly irritated and seemed to have no interest in continuing the conversation.
I just wanted to say sorry this happened and I can fully relate to IBS screwing with my day

Thank you

I feel like this is one of those insane situations that you just can’t do much about. You handled it well, in my opinion. I can’t imagine “I really have to go to the bathroom” would go over well in an interview regardless of the circumstances.

It reflects poorly on the interviewer, but totally true. OP you did the right thing
I'm confident the Partner checked his e-mail during that brief break. I point this out to say that although the Partner may have been visibly irritated and had a mood shift when you returned, that could also have nothing to do with you and be about something else he read during that break. I agree with the person who said to say thank you for patience during the interruption, but don't make it a bigger deal than that.

email or grindr.

This was a totally understandable move on your part. Not sure why some of the commenters think you should’ve disclosed the IBS or that you had to use the bathroom. There’s absolutely no good way to do that.
The problem is people have gotten to know what tech issues look like over the past couple years. And this probably didn’t look like that unfortunately. If this guy can’t put up with a 5 minute interruption though he sounds unpleasant to work with. Most people would’ve had more patience than he did (assuming you’re reading him right).

Once I rejoined, the Partner seemed really really irritated and no longer interested in carrying a conversation like he previously was. I feel terrible
I just want to say that calling it a tech issue was the right move. You made the right call there. You’d probably be freaking out way worse if you told them you have IBS and can no longer control your bladder, which is valid, but not a good interview move.

I am so sorry you might not get this job, but God bless you for sharing this story.

Sympathies from a fellow IBS sufferer. I think I would have done the same thing that you did. Stress is a big trigger for me so interviews and exams are a complete nightmare. I feel for your pain

Sorry to hear about your health issues. Seems like this is a situation that will resolve itself - if the partner has an issue with it, you don’t want to work there anyway.
It’s possible that their irritation had nothing to do with you and something came up during those five minutes that distracted/upset them.

What was their reaction when you returned?

Should I have been honest about needing to be excused? I am freaking out. This is my dream firm
Blame the medical condition, that really sucks to hear
I think this was 100% the right call. During an in person call back I had a similar issue but obviously couldn’t blame tech issues and had to leave mid interview to go to the bathroom. While that probably wasn’t the reason, i didn’t get the job so maybe that’ll reassure you’re making the right call Hahaahah
