I would like to know as well. How are we to address issues if we don’t know all the facts. I’ve had a student return from juvenile with absolutely no warning or even mention from the counselors or APs. He was a dangerous and violent individual. The only way I knew he was wearing an ankle monitor was because it peaked out of the bottom of his jeans. I was busy with other kids and another teacher who just happened to be in my room to drop something off saw it. Like wtf?! Anything could have triggered that kid and god only knows what damage he could have done. After that initial day he never came back (once again no one told me anything).
I am so sick and tired of the lack of information teachers initially receive about students. You know what I would have been told if I had went to the front office? “Well it’s all in his IEP. Look it up yourself.” Oh…the paperwork y’all have failed to upload. That paperwork? And even if it was entered I wouldn’t have had time to find it and read it. What if he went postal in class? I wouldn’t have any heads up.
No. Just no. It’s time teachers started rattling a few cages. Don’t want to tell us shit? Expect us to do miracles without any type of support? Take away my conference time in order to cover another class? Oh hell no. My new M.O. is to tell the front office that it is within my right to refuse to have a student in my class. Just like a student can choose not to have me as a teacher.
That’s right…go over your employee manual with a fine tooth comb. It’s probably on page 810 way in the back where no one will see it but it’s there. At least in Texas it is.
Stand up Teachers…because if you don’t advocate for yourself NO ONE will.
Whether he was or was not is mute at this point.
Thanks. I didn't delete the original comment and repost.
Exactly… no info about him right now. Are they planning on interviewing former students and teachers… come on… has to something there that no one is talking about.. again I stress, it’s the teachers job to do the best they can to teach and to notice any red flags in the classroom.. very difficult to do this in a mainstream class. Let’s see if they give us a bit of info about his life as a student.. just waiting right now.
Mentor
Is there any indication he would be anything other than mainstream?
Can I ask what you hope to glean from this information? Genuinely asking, not trolling.
I’ve already explained multiple x the issues with large mainstream classes in schools. As teachers it’s our job to build relations with our students while we are teaching. In a Mai stream class which includes students with multiple multiple personalities good and bad, students with ADHD disorders, multiple learning disorders… basically the majority of the classes are comprised of “needy” kids… with that said,1 teacher and 36 kids there is at times a struggle daily to juggle all the kids that need single handed the teachers support to understand the curriculum. The teacher can’t do well the other job they need to do which is deal with disciplinary issues(very present) in this type of class and never enough time to spot “red flags” with students. Which include students presenting social issues or any behavior or act that’s not within the norm. I’m comparing this class to the smaller AP/IB/myp courses etc. in those classes there is additional funding for teacher aides, student parent conf, teachers are able to address issues immediately once they see them or occur.. nothing goes unnoticed. In a mainstream class this shooter was most likely not dealt with although displayed weird or odd non normal behaviors all along.
All I can find, he should be graduating but dropped out, he was seen in his high school as recently as a month ago. Other students are surprised he didn’t choose the high school. Which does not answer your question but gives you some information.

I also saw this. Maybe it was a spur of a moment thing, but then again what do we know about a killer's motives
