Got an offer for Electronic Arts (EA) Manager for North America (Canada) remote for 100k base CAD, 15 percent bonus and around low 40ks RSU (assuming it's USD). How much higher can the base be in Canada for EA for a Manager role? Base seems low even at 110 CAD. It's a corporate role so not anything technical or product related. Most or all the more senior managers are in the USA. Electronic Arts (EA)

Similar to KPMG1. Once I hit ~120k as a single guy in a HCOL city, it really turned into a game of how many assets I could load up on for long term savings/retirement planning. Obviously, that game has no real end point.
Higher income levels do make day to day spending a lot more guilt free though, because you know you can save more than enough.

When I was a consulting intern I made 30k annualized.
None of the quality of life improvements I’ve had since then were down to an increased salary.

This makes no sense. Explain.
Yes, about 120K in NYC. At that point and after paying off student loans there wasn’t anything extra I wanted that incremental salary would give me so proportionally more started going to savings and investing.
For a DINK couple in Houston, it was about $150k. When it got to the point where the only debt was the mortgage and a car payment, and I no longer cared what the total was at the grocery store or the restaurant tab, then we felt rich. We save aggressively, though, because we know it won’t always be like this. But not stressing about paying the bills or a random car repair of $2k is amazing.
$113k in Chicago. I was able to pay for everything I needed to and still save.
Interestingly there was also a psychological shift that went along with it. I’ve definitely been poor in my life and at times worked 3 jobs to make ends meet. Once I hit 6 figures my pay increases don’t seem to matter as much since I’m no longer living paycheck to paycheck.
$135k i think. But I just bought my dream car (Tesla) at $240k and I’d say that’s a QOL improvement, so what do I know.
Nothing else has really changed tho

$120k ish as a single 20s took away any lifestyle stress.
$250k as a couple was similar.
Now married with 2 kids living in NYC I’m not even close to a salary threshold beyond which it wouldn’t matter a lot. That number must be like $1m or more.
Totally agree for NYC. Same boat
Not as high as others here, but for me getting 92 at the start of this year when I just turned 25 in Dc worked well! Living in dc with a roommate, no debt, able to save a good amount, still go out to drink and eat fairly often, and drop money on random stuff when I wanted guilt free (any video game, nerd hobby, etc). Granted I grew up low mid class and was always thrifty and cheap before getting a job and whatnot
Three years ago I was at $140 all in and now I’m at $300. Only difference is that I’m saving much more and perhaps choosing a bit nicer hotels during vacation. Except for that I’m living/ spending the same way now as then and feeling satisfied and that I’m able to enjoy life. Also in NYC.
Once I hit 70k in Denver I felt like I had enough to feel secure and save while spending more on hobbies/vacations. Felt like serious diminishing return after that point.
After a certain amount, for me I think 80k, nothing changed. My quality of life is the same. Granted I still live the same, I live below my means, the only difference is I have more money working for me when I sleep. That should mean I get to retire earlier.
I'll let you know when I get there. I am thinking 100k or so (NYC).
Big ticket items will get you. Want to go back to school, get the dream car, buy a house, do nice things with/for family, or retire some day? Each one on its own is $$$. If you don't have those aspirations, then sure, you can live without wanting for anything on $40-50k even in high cost areas.
