Didn’t get the promo this year as a second year consultant bc of 70% utilization 🙄 is it time to quit?

My advice - become the most reliable person! Become a Toyota!! You don’t have to be great at what you do or understand everything, but people have to be able to count on you to get things done and communicate when it’s needed the most. Don’t get me wrong, you still have to understand conceptually, but more importantly people should be able to count on you for anything. Under promise, over deliver. That’s how people start seeking out your time and coming to you for work rather than anyone else. While you might say, “let them go somewhere, less work for me” - well that’s how you end up with 70% then

Or, it’s time to get your utilization up? Isn’t 85 the ‘goal’ (meaning minimum) and most staff and seniors are in the 90s if not higher?

like

MA1 I could not agree more. We have a staff who is commentant but the reason I always pull their free time is exactly that. They're so reliable, always jump at every task they're given and know how get the job done. They might not be the most technically proficient but I'd rather have that staff any day of the week.

I don’t want this to sound harsh, but think of it like this. You can’t go out there and try to get put on things, it can work, but that’s not how that game is played. You have to make people want to come find you and seek out your time. Not sure if that helps.

70% as an excuse for not being promoting sounds like a nice way of saying you're nowhere near ready to being promoted

Is it a good idea to tell your manager intentions of leaving?

Recently had my review and it didn’t go how I expected. No raise, no promotion. I expressed disappointment but took the criticism I was given to reach my goal in 6 months or a year.

However, there are a number of issues that bother me enough where I want to move on.

The team I am on is small and I know that when I leave, they’ll have a lot on their hands. I only have a couple of interviews scheduled and nothing is solid yet.

They told me 6 months for promotion but it seems like the two promotion cycles with my different start dates give me 4 or 9 months of experience, nothing in between. I’ll be joining in the private equity group which will be new for me.

Hiya Guys, so I can tell I am burned out and inching into the grey pit of complacency. The burn out is already here, but the slide into grey-pit is not acceptable. I have a masters in business admin, 8+yrs of hospitality management experience, and a bachelors in science.

I really need advice/strategy for skill development, despite burn out and the weakened motivation. I am in a role that can, (in 2+ yrs), make me eligible to start at entry-level position in an area I want. I don't have 2 yrs.

Next year, there will be an important deadline for the project I'm working on and my resignation could be critical for the team, how would you deal with it?

Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?

Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
