Hard to answer - all dependent upon how valuable they see you. If they want you, they'll pay you more, if they don't, they'll wish you all the best in your future position....
Disagree with P2 and P3. They know this is a business. They're going to pay you as little as they can unless they give them a reason not to. If you handle it respectfully you could still stay at pwc if they have you a counter you liked
This has been covered before. If you do this it's usually not worth staying. They will always question your loyalty and odds are the problems that were causing you to leave in the first place are still there.
Call set up with another Big 4 firm... what are the odds I could squeeze more dough out of PwC wth an offer in hand? My practice is extremely short on SAs at present.
Always good to see what the markets rate is for your skills every few years.. keeps yourself realistic. Gotta look at yourself as a business sometimes
I don't think we should promote "good" performers. They should stay where they are until they exceed "good". Once they have crossed this threshold, then they are ready Padawan.
Was passed over for mgr as well. They bill me at a mgr rate to my client as I perform mgr work. Pretty pissed off
I'll just throw this out there. One of the smallest raises I ever received was the year I was promoted from M to SM.
Just wondering how retributive the firm would be if I presented another offer. I'm not looking to make any enemies of partners.
Agreed with P2. Accept the decision gracefully and go back with a stronger case next year. Don't go back with a threat to leave and a higher pay. It will leave a sour taste and demonstrate that you are still immature. It's well know that companies will pay a slight premium to recruit people away.
D2-Being a good performer and operating at the next level are different things.
K1-it's a pretty messed up culture if your firm pays you as little as they can get away with
I'm not sure it is. To be operating at the next level you typically need to be performing better than good. To each their own though. Hope everything works out!
^now that's what respectful disagreement looks like!!
Op Why do you want to stay?
I've built a solid network there (personally and professionally) where I'll never be on the bench. Rebuilding that network seems to be exhausting proposition.
P3, you have to think about if it were your business.. of course you would try to pay as little as possible to keep employees happy and effective workers. You aren't going to overpay for services you can get from someone else for cheaper... there is a balance between employee and employer compensation
