Who cares? This business attracts those of us who thrive in fast paced environments. That means a higher share of people ok with drugs & booze. This business is also getting worse and demanding more. For a younger generation - many were over medicated in general & now find themselves faced with the immense pressure of this thing we call ad life - this should be no surprise. Ive suffered from ADD since they began understanding it and do not take meds. I have, and hated the sude effects. That said speed is speed - it gives anyone a boost. These drugs are hard on the body but so is binge drinking which our business glorifies in general. I like advertising as its by nature ADD which is a perfect fit for me. I stick with coffee, low dose booze here and there and a little weed to level it all out. Bing!
For people suffering from ADHD it's a real necessity. I tried to work without taking it because it made me feel weak to need it. I saw a complete 180 in my output once I realized it was ok to accept help to treat a mental illness. It's really none of your business.

I just found out my junior is on Prozac/drinks every night/meditates/fill in the blank. Apparently they could not do the job without it. - why the fuck are you concerned about their private life? Seriously, this is so beyond something that is any of your business.

I've been on Adderall since I was 17 as prescribed by my doctor. I also suffer from ADHD and anxiety (diagnosed when I was 5). In order for me to be functioning human being of society I NEED to take this medication daily, forget even being able to do the job without out. So don't go judging people about it and making into a bigger issue than it is. Because trust me, anyone whom is prescribed this medication really doesn't like taking it AT ALL. Unfortunately science hasn't come up with a better solution for it yet (& yes I see a therapist bimonthly too). No one likes a shit stirrer.

For those people who need it, it is no different than wearing glasses. My ADD is a blessing and a curse. Not all of us who take it, are snorting it.
You'd be surprised how many of your co-workers are "on" something. It's just the state of affairs these days. Even I'm not immune from this.

OP: Are you surprised that you work with someone who has a personal life or that you're helping to create a shitty culture that doesn't treat people humanely? (Same for any place that makes you work more than 60hrs a week)

every white collar profession has its share of people who take adderall off-prescription to get ahead. it sucks for the people who won't do adderall, but it also sucks for those who do. speed is speed, and it catches up with you eventually.
My 3 coffees a day are stronger than some of these little pills. Everyone has their thing.
