Ugh this issue is difficult. Still trying to form an opinion and Some thoughts that come to mind:
- Wonder if there is number of admits vs. % of admits? If their aim is to keep even distribution of incoming class, makes sense why Black and Hispanic is a lot higher. Asians tend to be much more higher education focused and we have more people
- I do appreciate that colleges try to have even representation because that's how you learn about people that are different from you. So I think it's good that they have a chance to study and meet people of different backgrounds and learn what other people experience / think.
- I get that the system may not be perfect, but some system is better than no system. BUT i think they should have one that puts a bit more emphasis on the economic disparity (this will result in, imo, higher benefit to black and hispanic anyways, but this way everyone from lower income family gets a chance?)
I really appreciated that I got to meet and study with people of all sorts of backgrounds and that helped me mature as a person, so I do see value in the system... it helps the students become a more well-rounded person. But the specifics can be improved .... is my thought
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I don't think that hiring should be adjusted for anyone. The only way to keep it fair is to have a standard coding test for everyone.
