Our Consulting CEO is Janet Foutty, and we have a lot of women partners including some very powerful / highly ranked ones, and are working actively to address both sexual and racial diversity. Deloitte has a ways to go but they are trying to to the right thing in my opinion.

I think we are one of the largest if not the largest H1-B employer in the US, and our internal diversity statistics exclude people from India because they are not an underrepresented group.

I am a white male, but more than once have felt like the “token white guy” on my project.

like

@D1, I gotta call bullshit on feeling like the token white guy.

So you’re saying you worked on a project where everyone else including senior managers and partners were not caucasian?

Or everyone you worked with on the ground was not caucasian, but the partners and managers where caucasian?

This batters because then you’d notice the delineation I’m trying to make.

Great to hear that there have been pretty diverse teams, but don’t think that’s speaks to diversity overall at D. I doubt you notice as much the non-diverse teams however. As a woman of color, I’d say those are the norm and it probably takes feeling like a minority to notice. Hence why your diverse teams stick out in your mind clearly like the non diverse ones stick out in mine. Not a bad thing, but just something to be aware of in terms of what draws your attention and why.

I'm a white man, and at one point I was on a project with an Asian woman (M), a white woman (SC), an Indian-American woman (C), an Iranian-American woman (SC), an African-American woman (SC), and a white woman (C). At least in my experience, I've had pretty diverse teams at Deloitte.

Not sure where this is coming from. My projects have all been pretty diverse.

Project teams are generally diverse. I think having more diverse leadership is a different matter. While there has been strides made to have more diverse representation, leadership/upper management still are very homogenous.

EY1 Yes, everyone else including the partner not caucasian, or in some cases there were some caucasian females. Which is perfectly fine btw, they were all great people to work with and for. I have personally not worked a ton with Deloitte USI/offshore though I know it’s very common, we’ve brought some on site for some projects but I’ve only had offshore resources (not on site) on my own projects a couple of times.

Why do you call BS? We are a huge firm with hundreds of projects at any given time. I’m not arguing this is the norm, but it does happen. I’ve worked for partners who were Indian, female, and black (not all three obviously, but sometimes two!). I will say I don’t think I’ve seen much Latino representation at the higher levels but I’d love to see more, and I’ve supervised very talented Latino staff (H1-B) on multiple projects.

So, just curious are you saying more should be done for diversity or that Accenture isn’t doing enough or you think it’s a success that your group is diverse enough that a white male feels like a token white male for being the only one?
