I’ve honestly liked both, but haven’t had a good, homemade sweet potato pie. I get the sense if I did that might be my new favorite. But my family has only ever had pumpkin pies.

Meat-pie!
I prefer sweet potato pie, but it's harder to find. But I'm usually all about key lime, so.

I guess if we get lots of different answers then we’re diverse?
Sounds like this is a good way to get reported to HR for perpetuating racial stereotypes. Hard pass.
They aren’t the same thing?
There are a lot of diverse or wide arrange opinions given. But one could argue that sometimes diversity is sometimes misinterpreted. The question was not asking for everyone favorite pie.
In this case the question was not meant to get responses of a wide arrange of answers. The question ask for A or B, with one possible answer of C would have suffice. If people said “neither”.
Also, the question comes from an amiable and good-natured Black culture stereotype that black families far more choose sweet potato pie compared to pumpkin pie. Not saying blacks don’t eat pumpkin pie or prefer pumpkin pie, but this is a good-humored stereotype in the African American community.
Giving that all the random answers of pies where given other than the choices in the question shows the misinterpretation of what diversity was meant in this context.
On that note for you all that have black staff/leaders on your team ask them this question. Lighting the mood on your teams. Begin to have fun diversity conversations. Open the question up to others on the team also.

Question for those who grew up in culturally yam-focused (as opposed to sweet potato) households:
Did y’all make yam pie?

I’ve never had sweet potato pie. For someone who has had both pumpkin and sweet potato pies, are they made similarly but with different squashes? Same overall flavor profile? Or is there a difference between the two? Genuinely curious.
