That’s for dependents. You’re not supposed to work on j2 unless you get EAD, which is deep in gc process, which is a weird to start gc while on j1. And as far as I understand, all big 4 should hire similar to when you have h4 with EAD.

Yes, you can work when you get J2 EAD and there is no GC process required. With regard to your question on Big four hiring, if work authorization is in place, I don’t see why they won’t hire.
Yes. I worked on a J2 EAD for 3 years and transferred to an H1 this year. Just remember that you can't transfer to an H1 till your spouse gets waiver approval.
